I am a pretty firm believer that with skincare products you get what you pay for. And while there are some great high street brands like Garnier. I do think that good quality skincare comes at a bit of a price. According to some research, Nuxe did the average person spends £570 a year on skincare. This might sound like a lot but I know how easily it can be done. I am really trying to hold back on buying anything new as I have a lot of products to work my way through. And just one face (and body) to use them on. But I thought I’d let you in on some of the skincare items worth the splurge.
I did a mini Cult Beauty haul a while back when there was a discount code. And this was the cleanser I chose to add to my bag. I picked it because blueberries are an antioxidant which is meant to be great for your skin. Plus it’s a gel cleanser which I’m really getting into lately. I’ve realised I am not a massive balm lover anymore.
This cleanser has an amazing scent, so much so that sometimes I use it just to get a whiff of the fruit. It’s so fresh without being overpowering (even though the blueberry smell is quite strong). It feels so refreshing which I think is a combination of the gel formula and the scent. And as it’s a gel it does hydrate my skin with a very gentle lather. I am so glad I got this cleanser and it would be great for anyone with sensitive or dry skin.
It’s also made me a little bit obsessed with Glow Recipe as a brand now. Definitely some skincare items worth the splurge.
I am a huge fan of Origins but I had never used anything in the mushroom range until I had a mini facial at a John Lewis event. The girl who did my facial used the mega-mushroom treatment lotion and it was so soothing on my skin.
The treatment lotion is used as a toner (after cleansing before a serum). But they don’t call them toners, as this makes you think of alcohol and the Origins treatment lotions, don’t have any alcohol in them. Due to this, the lotion was really light and quite watery with some very natural feeling ingredients within it. It’s designed to prep freshly cleansed skin ready for serum and moisturiser. Sometimes with a traditional toner (even the sensitive ones), my skin can feel quite tight and not overly hydrated. But this had the opposite effect and felt like a dream on my skin.
A little while back Anna Newton of The Anna Edit did a collab with Kiehls where you could get 20% off her top picks. I jumped straight on that bandwagon as the few bits from Kiehls I have tried I’ve loved. The Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence was on her list and one of the items I picked up. Much like the Origins treatment above this is designed to be used when you’d use a toner. But it’s much better for your skin. Or you can use it after toner as an extra step if you want.
The Iris range has some anti-ageing properties and is designed to recapture the skin’s youthful radiance. And as I am approaching the big 3-0 I want to try and add odd bits into my routine which are designed to help with ageing. Like a lot of Kiehl’s products, this is really nourishing and I notice my redness goes down a little after I use this. This is how I know something is super hydrating. While I don’t have any signs of ageing (yet) the fine lines around my mouth and eyes do look a little blurred when I use this regularly.
I’d been keen to try some of the Kate Somerville range for a while but in all honesty, I thought it was a bit pricey. It takes a lot for me to spend £30+ on a skincare product I’ve not tried before. But I spotted the Exfolikate introduction kit with three travel-sized items for £33 and I knew this was a good chance to try out the products. The item in it that I’ve been most impressed by is the Exfolikate Cleanser.
The Exfolikate range seems to have a fresh citrus scent to them which I really appreciate. It’s really refreshing which I appreciate in the evening. The cleanser can be used as a daily foaming wash and is designed to remove surface impurities and makeup, refine the appearance of skin texture, reduce the appearance of pores and refreshes, softens and conditions the skin. I have found that my skin feels bit plumper when I use it and it doesn’t a great job as a second cleanse after my micellar water. This helps to remove any makeup residue I’m left over with.
I am a huge fan of the Dr Jart ceramide collection and this colour correcting treatment came highly recommended. I spotted a mini-sized version on ASOS so made an order straight away to give it a go. The treatment comes out like a khaki green which looks really strange, to begin with. But when you blend it into your skin it matches your tone and blurs any colour imperfections. Which for me are my red cheeks and blotchy nose.
Online it says to use it after cleansing your skin, but I tend to use it after my full skincare routine in the morning if I’m not planning on wearing much (or any makeup). It’s lovely as a base to just cover everything up while not being makeup. It feels really light and fresh on the skin and it’s amazing how it works. Another win for Dr Jart.

I have to admit I’ve never used any of these items. I absolutely love the sound of the Blueberry Bounce Cleanser, perhaps I’ll have to start with that one.
I’ve not tried any of these brands! The Kiehls activating treatment sounds right up my street!
We’d love to be able to afford Kiehls products and its great you managed some money off! Looks like a great range of goodies you’ve picked x
I try and avoid buying anything at full price and wait until I can find a discount code or voucher x
I love this! I think sometimes items really are worth splurging on but it’s quite a big risk to do that without seeing reviews already. I am going to treat myself to a couple!
Skincare is definitely worth splurging on a little bit. I love the sound of the blueberry cleanser!
The blueberry cleanser is one of the best cleansers I’ve used and as it’s a gel it’s so soothing x
There are some skincare products that I really can’t skimp on and the soothing lotion sounds lovely! X
I love Kiehls products. They’re definitely worth the splurge!
I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought new skincare items, I really do need to update my regime. I’ll take a look at these on my next shopping trip
I’ve not tried any of these but I am looking for a new cleanser, so I’ll have a look at the Glow Recipe one!
I don’t mind spending extra if the products work for me. I love Elizabeth Arden and Clinique.
I love Clinique too, although I’ve not tried too much from Elizabeth Arden x
I 100% agree. I haven’t tried any of the products here, as I only use all natural formulas, but I’ve definitely noticed that the quality of a product is often reflected in the price. you don’t have to pay crazy money, but if you’re paying less than a fiver for a tub of product then it’s probably not v good imo. whereas if you pay 20+ for something, chances are it has been made with more love and intention and expertise.
I 100% agree, although a lot more brands are doing more natural formulas. Like the Elemis superfood collection is beautiful and all natural from what I can remember x
