June’s now over, which means we’re over halfway through the year which is pretty scary now. It’s been a really good month, but how quickly this year is going is a bit mental.
I’ve got up to a lot within June but unlike previous years it hasn’t included festivals. For the first time in 10 year’s, I missed my annual trip to Donnington Park for Download Festival. I wasn’t too bothered as this year’s lineup didn’t excite me too much. Plus my friend’s hen weekend was a far more appealing offer.
I had a full day out in London at the start of the month which was lots of fun. I headed in early by myself to go to the Psychology of magic exhibition at the Wellcome Collection. The exhibition was really interesting and I got to see a performance from a card illusionist which was so interesting. Then I met up with my friend to go and see a Hans Zimmer vs John Williams show. I absolutely love hearing movie soundtracks and this was really incredible. We ended the day off at Tank and Paddle which was a restaurant on my to visit list for a while. We indulged in a giant sharing pizza and mac and cheese which was perfection.
The following day me and Luke headed into London to a gig in Wembley. We headed to BoxPark, to begin with and I was so impressed at all the food options there. We then went to see Tenacious D which was a great show, but it happened to be on the same day as BTS were playing the Stadium. Due to this our normal 35 minute door-to-door journey, took over 3 hours. For a Sunday evening, this was hell! We ended up having to get a jubilee line to Stanmore then an uber to the met station to pick up our car as the met line had stopped running.
Then right at the end of the month when we had our massive heat wave me and Luke headed to Portobello Road for his Gin experience gift I bought for his birthday. We spent 3 hours in an air conditioned basement learning about gin, drinking lots of gin and making our very own bottle. We had a great time at the experience and were really impressed with the bottles of gin we handmade.
At the start of the month, I was ill for a few days due to food poisoning and it wasn’t fun at all. I ended up missing a Vukovi gig which me and Luke were looking forward to. And my work summer party as I didn’t feel up to going. Being ill never comes at a good time but this time was even more inconvenient.
I had some bad news at work around the risk of redundancies which wasn’t a good thing to happen in June. It’s a bit of an unnerving time but I am trying to stay positive about the situation. But hopefully, I should know more in July and have a better idea of what the future looks like.
Another month and another mass of movies I watched. I went to the cinema four times, but I would have happily gone to see even more but I didn’t have too many evening or weekends left over to myself.
It started off with Godzilla and X-Men: Dark Phoenix over the start of the month. Godzilla was actually really good and I loved seeing the other creatures within the movie, especially Mothra. X-Men was alright but I didn’t really like Sophie Turner in the movie and I didn’t connect with it as much. Now X-Men is back to Marvel Studios hopefully these movies will get much better.
Me and Luke went to see Toy Story on opening day and I really enjoyed it. It had a similar feel to the originals and was a great rounding arch for the characters. I laughed a lot more than I thought I would as well. Then the final movie trip was on the final day of the month when I took my parents to see Yesterday. I seem to be a sucker for musical based movies but this was so good. The cast was great and the soundtrack was amazing! Definitely worth a watch if you get a chance.
One of the biggest (and most exciting) parts of June was my friend’s hen weekend. We spent a lovely two nights in a huge house in Banbury, Oxfordshire and had a wonderful time. There was food, drinks, games and a hot tub which is a pretty epic few days in my opinion. It was nice to switch off for a bit and just enjoy being in the company of some of my favourite people. The Sunday of the hen party weekend was Father’s Day but thankfully we got back pretty early so I was able to spend some quality time with my dad.
It was a birthday filled end to June with both Luke’s mum and sisters birthday. We went out for a few meals which was really nice, again it was great to just spend some time with everyone.
In June I headed to another event with Intu Watford in June which was a Debenhams Beauty event. I got to catch up with some lovely ladies, chat away to loads of the brands in Debenhams and try a few bits and pieces out. My wish list is extending now so I need to carefully think about what to get.
Right near the end of the month me and Luke had a spa day in St Albans which is super close to where we live. We got to relax and chill out on the loungers, try some of the sauna’s (I actually managed the two cooler ones), took a dip in the Jacuzzi pool and got a full body massage. I love switching off from technology for a bit and indulging in some self-care.

Sounds like a busy although stressful month – hope you get good news this month regarding your job!
Thank you x
A couple of my favorite bands played Download this year. June was uneventful for me as I have been recovering from surgery.
Oh which bands that you like were at Download? x
Oh making the gin in an air conditioned cellar sounds perfect for that hot weather and good to hear Godzilla was actually good, I wasn’t sure after the trailer. Mch x
Sounds like a great month apart from food poisoning and worry with your work. Hope it’s good news with your work. The spa day sounds idyllic, can’t beat a bit of time out for tlc and pampering.
Thank you, fingers crossed the next few weeks goes smoothly x
Oh wow what a busy looking time you have had! I’ve always wanted to go to Download but it is somewhere I have never managed to make – perhaps one day! I hope you are feeling better after the food poisioning.
Sounds like you had an eventful June, sorry to hear about your work! The huge house in Banbury, was that air bnb? I love the sound of the hot tub, my friends and I have been looking for a weekend break and the hot tub sounds relaxing!
Yep it was airBnB and if you have enough people it really wasn’t that pricey x
I’m really quite envious of all your cinema trips – I haven’t been in what feels like forever
food poisoning is no fun, hope you are feeling better now. I really want to see Toy Story and hope everyone enjoyed their birthdays
Thank you! You need to see Toy Story as it’s so good x
I had high hopes for Toy Story 4 but just really didn’t like it. great you got to see 4 films though — we hardly ever go anymore it seems as we watch on Netflix/Now TV etc haha
You didn’t like it?! I’m quite shocked by that as I’ve not heard any bad things about it. What didn’t you like? x
Oh no food poisoning sucks, but I’m glad you’ve managed to enjoy the rest of the month.
It always amazed me how you manage to fit so much into your months! It sounds like you have had a brilliant June, bar the sickness. Hopefully you will hear some news about your job soon.
