Welcome, August! Another month down and July was a scorcher. I don’t know about you guys but I struggled in the heat. We’re currently in the loft bedroom of my parent’s house which is even hotter than the rest of the house. So even with the windows totally open and two fans, it was tough. But I’m hoping August won’t be littered with too many days like this.
Compared to normal months I haven’t been out and about as much. But that’s because I spent 10 days away during the month. And it was very much needed. Here’s what I got up to in July.
At the start of the month, I indulged in a bit of pampering. I went for a big change with my hair and decided to step away from the red. I’ve been dying my hair red for almost a decade now, but I’ve decided to give my natural colour a chance. My hairdresser matched my hair to my roots and I’m so happy with the mid-brown colour I’ve been left with.
I treated myself to getting my nails done this month as I had a wedding to go to. I opted for pink as it matched my dress and I loved having them done. Sadly due to going to a festival, they didn’t last quite as long as usual. I also got my eyebrows threaded for the first time. I was worried it was going to be super painful but it was actually totally alright so I think I might do this more often. I’m so bad at keeping my eyebrows looking good myself so this is an alternative.
While I was away I got back into the habit of using face masks more to pamper my skin. And my skin loved me for it, especially post-festival. I’ve tried to keep this up after my trip and doing a minimum of 2 a week.
It was one of my closest friend’s wedding at the start of the month and it was such a beautiful day. It was the first time I had been to a traditional church wedding and the pair just looked so happy. I loved the excuse to catch up with my friends and people I hadn’t seen in a long time.
During the month I’ve also had some good catch ups both with friends I definitely don’t see often enough. And with family including finally going and having dinner with my Nan and spending some time with her.
One of the biggest things in July for me was 2000 trees festival. I’d only ever done a day at the festival before but this year we had full weekend tickets. We camped with a great bunch of people and had such a great three days. We’ve got our camping equipment to a fine art now as well. Luke had a great tent which was big enough that I could stand up in. We invested in a king-size air mattress which made sleeping so much more comfortable than I’ve ever been at a festival. And the weather was pretty darn great.
As we were away this month was much quieter on the cinema front. I only saw Spiderman: Far From Home and Lion King, both of which I loved. I’m a huge fan of the Disney live-action movies so Lion King was a highlight for me. Another thing we spent time watching in July was the new season of Stranger Things which we loved. We tried not to binge it too quickly, and it was quite nice to long it out a bit.
Straight after 2000 trees festival, we headed to Aberystwyth in Wales to spend it with Luke’s parents and sister. The week was just what I needed to relax, sleep in and just take some time for me. I tried not to do too much work while I was away although I kept on top of things so my workload wasn’t crazy when I got back.
I finished reading 2 books which were amazing. And I relaxed in the hot tub a few times which was so nice (and it was huge!)
After the worries at work last month I got confirmation that I still have my job which of course was great news to hear. In terms of additional/ freelance work, I wrote an article for the Intu Watford magazine. And I can’t wait to see it in print when it comes out in Autumn. I also confirmed and completed an article for The Metro which was great and involved a photographer coming to my house to take photos. He said I was a natural so I guess I fooled him!
While we’re still a while away from moving I have gotten a few additional goodies to keep for our house recently. Wayfair had a sale on and this included money off an item which was on my wishlist. So I had to buy it, alongside a stunning marble cake stand. One thing which I was sent through recently was this dual star map* from Posterhaste which I absolutely love. What’s so clever about this is you can enter a particular date and time, and then a location and it will show you the constellations at that point.
One thing I love about the Posterhaste versions is how customizable you can make them. For example, the background colour which I opted for in pink. I went for this as I know when we move it will go in my office and this is a colour I’ll have in there. You can also choose the wording under the maps, the font and the way everything looks. It was so simple to create and you can see a preview before you order to make sure it looks just as you want it. The brand also does a whole host of other personalizable images such as typography and so much more.
