Following Rhian’s recent blog all about wallpapering our home, I wanted to talk about wallpaper in the master bedroom.  And the idea of a photo wallpaper on the wall behind the bed.

There’s such an amazing range out there. From sunlit woodland wallpaper, the dazzling lights of cityscapes or even palm tree-studded beaches. And what’s even better, is that if you have white furniture, it will go with all these photo wallpapers. So, let’s have a little look at how you could make either one of these styles work in the home. More importantly, this blog may help some of you to decide if a photo wallpaper is right for your home.

Mindful Woodland Wallpaper

The thing with gorgeous woodland wallpaper is that you immediately feel relaxed as soon as you see them. This makes them perfect for the bedroom.

What’s more, it is said that the colour green is one of the most calming colours. It relieves stress, anxiety and overall improves mental wellbeing. So it really isn’t a surprise that we find lush, green forest scenes completely zen. Research has even shown that being amongst nature or even images of nature, are good for our mental health.

I also think that planning décor around forest wall murals will be relatively easy. The beautiful simplicity of mother nature is much easier to work with compared to overly patterned, colourful designs. White furniture, such as my wardrobe, a bedhead and dressing table are great ideas. They will ensure that the stunning photography in a tree wallpaper will always be at centre stage. Then, to reflect the shades of green, you could add green accent cushions, white duvet covers with touches of green pattern in them and even a plant or two.

Nostalgic Cityscape Wallpaper

Let’s now have a break from nature scenes. The beauty of cityscapes is that a lot of them have purple tones in them which fits very nicely with a purple theme. New York at night, where the black sky is so lit up that it’s a mix of deep lilac and navy blue is stunning to the eye. Cityscape wallpaper also adds a stylish edge to interiors. It really does make you feel like you’re stood on the balcony at your city loft pad. Sex in the City definitely comes to mind…

However, if you like the idea of a city wall mural, but are not keen on New York, there’s such an extensive range of cities to choose from. From London and Venice to Tokyo and Stockholm, there’s sure to be a cityscape wall mural to suit everyone.

It’s especially great if you choose a city that really touched you on your travels. If you had one of the best city breaks of your life in Paris, bring those memories into your home by installing a Paris mural. That way you can reminisce about the time you went up the Eiffel Tower or indulged in strong black coffee and macarons in that cute vintage patisserie. Even the iconic style legend, Audrey Hepburn, said that ‘Paris is always a good idea.’ So surely a Paris wallpaper is always a good idea as well (especially if it has lovely purple tones)!

Relaxing Beach Wallpaper

Last but not least, sun-drenched beach wallpaper. Possibly walks through woodlands or city breaks aren’t your idea of relaxation. Maybe you’re the type of person who likes to relax on holiday by swinging in a hammock and reading 5 books a day. The sound of the frothy ocean breathing in and out on the white-sanded shores – bliss!

I’m sure many of us will find that swaying palm trees and sapphire-blue oceans are ultimately relaxing. They really do set the perfect ambience for your master bedroom. And what’s more, the foamy white waves and white clouds will look fabulous with white décor, giving the room a fresh, light look. To bring more of the outdoors in, you could even add potted or hanging green, air-purifying plants.
