Treating Your Mum – Mothers Day Gift Ideas For All Budgets

March 2, 2020

Valentines Day is done and dusted, so now it’s time to think ahead to the next occasion: Mother’s Day. March is well focused on my mum as her birthday happens to fall in the same month. Lucky her, but unlucky us! Throughout my life, my mum has spoilt me with love and been very generous on birthdays etc. So I love to be able to spoil her on those special occasions too. But Mother’s Day isn’t about splashing the cash. It’s about showing the person who brought you up how much she means to you. That’s why I’ve picked a mixture of Mothers Day gift ideas, some that are under the £10 mark, and some which go above.

Like most women my mum loves a good pamper so some pampering goodies seemed like a good choice for a Mothers day gift. The Magnitone Silicone Cleansing Brush* (£40) is a great starting point as it’s something she’s unlikely to buy herself. It comes in a blue or pink design, but of course, I had to go for pink. The brush pulses to give you a deep cleanse and leave you with glowy healthy-looking skin. I have a very similar brush which I use most days and it always makes me feel like I’ve done a better cleanse than when I don’t use it. There are different zones depending on your skin type so you can personalise it depending on whether you have oily/ normal skin, dry/ sensitive skin or you just want a facial massage.

To continue along the pampering theme I’ve got two skincare item. One from a brand I’ve used a lot in the past year and love; Skyn Iceland, and one from a brand I’ve never tried before, Douvall’s.

The Skyn Iceland Oxygen Infusion Night Cream* (£44.80) isn’t the cheapest skincare item, but it’s well worth it for how my skin feels from using it. The night cream is designed to replenish what everyday stress takes away from your skin. It livens up the skin’s natural renewal process and nurtures your skin back to a healthy state. With all the stress of the house purchase, mortgages and money this couldn’t have come at a better time for me. It also offers anti-aging benefits which after finding grey hair last month it looks like I may need. The cream is deeply hydrating, gave my skin a bounce in the morning, and definitely helped stabilise the uneven texture in my skin.

Next up is this Organic Argan Oil Moisturiser* (£25) from Douvalls. The thing I love most about argan oil is how versatile it is. This moisturiser is light enough to use day and night, but it’s great for your nail cuticles, on your body for dry spots, or as a hair treatment to smooth and add shine to hair. As a skin treatment, it hydrates, nourishes, and repairs the skin so it’s a great all-rounder.

The final pampering items are some bits from the Fiona Cairns bathing range* including a rose bubble bath, rose scrub and rose hand cream. The items in this range start at just £5 so you can make up your own pamper package for your mum. The rose scent is beautiful but not too overpoweringly floral. The whole collection has oil within them to make sure your skin stays hydrated and soft which as the weather is still pretty cold is much needed.

The standout product that I got was the Body Scrub which has a great size of grain to gently exfoliate, but it’s not too rough you can’t use it most days. And it has almond oil in it so it’s really nourishing and soft as well.

Red Letter Days Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea

Now I am a HUGE fan of experience presents as they’re the things people remember. Plus they tend to be something you can enjoy together. And this for this Mothers Day gift I’ve picked out the Alice’s Queen of Hearts Themed Afternoon Tea for Two at 5* Taj 51 Hotel* (£90) because who doesn’t love an afternoon tea?! This one is a pretty fancy one as not only is it at a 5* hotel, but it’s completely themed.

Now Alice in Wonderland is a Disney movie I remember watching with my mum a lot as a kid so that’s why I chose this one. You get all the typical sandwiches, scones and sweet treats but they all pay homage to Alice. From ‘No White Roses’ cupcakes to ‘The Jury’ scone. I’ve done one Alice themed afternoon tea before, so I can’t wait to do this one now!

Red Letter Days do a huge selection of gift ideas from spa days, overnight stays, theatre and entertainment, days out, adrenaline-fuelled activities, foodie bits. Pretty much everything you can think of.

If you’re going to get a physical present I love personalised goodies. This rose gold jewellery box* (£32.99) is stunning, although it was incredibly hard to take photos of as it’s all glass and mirrors. Everyone needs a little box to store their everyday jewellery in and keep it all safe and secure. But can you believe I was storing most of my daily bits either on a tray or just out on my bedside table. So I chose to pick this up for myself, although I’m sure I’ll have to buy another one for my mum as a Mothers Day gift. Especially as she loves sparkly things as well.

The box itself is stunning with rose gold edges and a mirrored bottom. You’ll be able to see exactly what’s inside to choose what to wear. And I can’t wait for it to have pride of place on my dressing table when we move. The engraving can be up to 50 characters so there’s plenty of room to write a special message.

Another movie themed item is this Disney Traditions Nightmare Before Christmas* (£59.95) ornament which is absolutely stunning. I’m a huge fan of the Disney tradition bits as they’re so well crafted. And whatever movie you love there’s bound to be an ornament to celebrate it. This one shows most of the main characters from Halloween town in my ultimate favourite movie. The detail of this ornament is unreal from the wooden style base it’s on right through to the characters faces.

Whether your mum loves Winnie the Pooh, Mickey Mouse or Disney Princesses’ there’s a beautiful ornament for her.

Now if your mum is anything like mine she can’t get enough of pretty glasses. They have cabinets full of them but are always on the hunt for something different. And these Sara Miller London Portmeirion Gold Leaf Stemless Wine Glasses* (£51) are just that. The glasses are absolutely stunning with a gold leaf pattern all over them. And they’re such versatile glasses. You can use them for wine, but they’ll also be great for gin and tonic, or even just a soft drink. And the shape of them means they sit really well in your hand which I love.

Now I’m a huge fan of Portmeirion items, especially those in the Sara Miller collection. And over the years I’ve collected a lot of items from both gifted campaigns and their outlet store in Livingstone which Luke has been to three times. These glasses are a real standout from the collection and I’m not even going to moan that they’re hand wash only.

Knives

Moving to something if your mum is more of a cook. This Furi Pro East/West Two-Piece Santoku Knife Set* includes two knives at 13cm and 17cm in a beautiful wooden gift box. These knives are some of the most versatile and great everyday knives to use for vegetables and meat. They have scalloped indentations on the blades which help make slicing easier and faster. When I first used them they glided through the bits I was cutting with such ease it made cooking feel less like a chore.

They’re made from Japanese high carbon stainless steel so they’re incredibly hard-wearing. The thing I loved most about them was how comfortable the handle was as it has a wedge-shape design. This is also meant to help reduce slipping towards the blade. And I really appreciate this as I do get a bit uneasy around knives sometimes.

Somehow despite being a tea lover, my mum has never really gotten into loose leaf tea. So while there are loads of tea choices from Whittard, I’ve gone for the Treasured Blends collection* (£25) with six different flavours to try. There are some more traditional ones from English Breakfast and Earl Grey through to a sweet Mango & Bergamot and a floral Jasmine.

The set contains some of Whittards best-loved loose leaf teas. And a set like this is a great way to try a selection of different flavours of loose leaf tea. Then you can buy a larger jar of whichever ones you like. This will make a great Mothers Day gift to go alongside a tea strainer.

You can’t go wrong with chocolates for a Mothers Day gift and Lily O’Briens have you covered. Whether it’s an ultimate chocolate collection* (£7) which has an amazing chocolate orange inside. Or a desserts collection* (£7) full of treats like Creme Brulee and Passion Fruit Posset.  You could include the chocolates in a little night at home package including a movie to watch and a face mask. To be honest that sounds like my kind of night in.

Baileys heart chocolates

Another chocolate option are these Baileys Strawberry & Cream Hearts which are brand new for this year. If your mum loves the Irish cream liqueur this could be the one for her. Encased in milk chocolate is a mixture of strawberry and cream flavoured truffle.

And you never know she might let you have one!

I’ve mentioned a few times in gift guides that my mum is a huge Marmite lover. So this Marmite Popcorn* (£4.99) sounded like something she’d love, even though to a Marmite hater I can’t think of anything worse. Joe & Stephs do a whole range of unusual and wacky popcorn flavours all handmade and air-popped in London.

The popcorn is covered in smooth caramel and Marmite to create a sweet but salty snack. Although I’ll have to leave this for my mum to taste test on Mother’s Day.

What a great selection of Mother’s Day gifts! I like that you included all sorts of products on this list, from skincare to experiences, from sweet indulgences to useful kitchen aids. I am a fan of experiences and I always gift them to my dear ones. I have been to an Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea in London before and it was so exquisite!

This is a great selection of gifts that would be perfect for Mother’s Day. I still haven’t decided what I’m getting my mum, altough I usually lean towards experience presents so we can do something fun together.

On a completely separate note, my sister would LOVE that marmite flavoured popcorn. I’ll need to remember that for her next birthday!

There are some lovely ideas here, and a brilliant range of all kinds. As a mum, I’d be happy with almost all of them (I just don’t like chocolate much). Love the range of rose stuff, it is one of my favourite scents for skin care. So soothing and fresh.
