Things I Do For A Productive Week

December 14, 2022
To do list with flowers around it

I don’t know how people are expected to work, have a side hustle, keep a good social life, have an immaculate house, work out, have hobbies and everything else we should do. A productive week for me tries to tick all those boxes, but it isn’t always possible.

Like most of us, I’m trying to juggle a hundred things at once. And it doesn’t matter how much I do; I’m never satisfied.

Here are some of the things I do for a productive week.

Use Todoist

I posted about the simple to-do list app that boosted my productivity a few months ago, but it has been life-changing.

Regularly I would spend ages at the start of the week working out my to-do list and setting it all up, but that doesn’t result in a productive week. I’d waste hours every month, and inevitably, I’d forget something.

I manage to have a productive week because everything I need to do is logged down, and there’s something satisfying about ticking a box to say it’s done.

Recurring reminders for a productive week

Using Todoist I have recurring tasks that happen daily, weekly, monthly etc. And once you’ve set it up the first time, it recurs automatically.

I use this for all of my cleaning reminders, i.e. every week on a Tuesday morning, I clean the downstairs loo, and every third week I wash our bedding etc. Having this set up means I never forget things and can be productive in spreading it throughout the week. Life admin tasks like booking the cats in for their six monthly check-ups or sending Luke’s weekly invoices for work.

If something isn’t written down or right in front of me, I forget about it. So I even have a daily reminder to take my vitamins. My brain doesn’t have to remember all of these things, so I never forget, and it frees up brain space for other things.

Ticking off a list

Use the time blocking technique for a productive week

I micro schedule my entire life and break down my day and weeks schedules into small blocks. This means I can account for every minute of my time. And I find micro-scheduling works really well for me.

Now this method doesn’t work for everyone as it can feel quite restrictive, but it works for me to have a productive week. Time is accounted for before work, in my lunch break and after work. And I plan this using my to do list. I like to make everything fit into bite-sized chunks, so I know I am maximizing my time.

You might find a looser option works best for you where you don’t plan minute by minute, but you have a few morning, afternoon and evening tasks.

This can be useful in all areas, from work and the office to my personal life.

Have 15-minute tidying sprints

I love living in a tidy home, but I have a lot of stuff and aren’t always the tidiest person. Generally, when things get untidy, tidying up is a big job. So now I try and have snappy 15-minute tidying sprints throughout the week.

Before I go downstairs in the morning, I can have a tidying sprint in the bedroom. This might be tidying up clothes or returning some bags to their rightful homes. Or for us it tends to be our kitchen diner as it’s the first room you come to when you walk into the house so that it can be a bit of a dumping ground.

Little and often is my motto for a productive week. And not having to spend 2 hours on the weekend tidying up.

Tiny cleaning sprints is the bomb, because they do add up. It doesn’t feel like you’re tackling much, but a couple of those a day, compounded over a week, and your house can look pretty organised. Thanks for sharing these tips!

I use a to do list every day. Honeslty, if it weren’t for it, I would not get anything done. LOL

Todoist is such a great app. I use this app too to increase my productivity and have more things done.

These are great ideas, I have a routine in the mornings which sets me straight for the day. I then know what I need to do each day

I keep a planner where I break down all my daily tasks by the hour and it *really* does help…it’s such a game changed and I find when I focus on getting one task done at a time, rather than trying to do it all at once, I get so much more done.

I started to maintain a to do list, it is helping a lot but the list keeps on growing and growing. I definitely need to prioritize the tasks.

Todoist looks like a great app I will have to check this out.

To do list are a must have for me for a productive week. Without a list to keep me on task, I don’t know how I’m going to keep on track.

I swear by a list! When I move away from mine, things get missed. I like the idea of cleaning in bursts – it seems less burdensome.

OOh I need to have a look at Use Todoist, I currently use Notes on my phone, so this might be a better option x

I find a lot of things slip when I’m juggling a full-time job, two kids and a dog – lists help a lot!
