Summertime Unleashed – July 2020 Overview

Living room in the new house decorated and with carpet

Welcome, August! Another month down and we’re in the middle of what should be ‘summertime’. I say this every single month but how are we at this point of the year so far?! I did my first post which spoke about Christmas the other week which is a little mental. But I’m stoked for this year as we’ll have loads of firsts in the new house. A lot of this year has merged together, but July was a pretty good month.

‘Socialising’ in July

I’ve still not realised socialised all that much this month. But with the house going on I wouldn’t be doing much socialising regardless of everything else going on. I’ve seen one of my friends a few times for walks which have been really nice. And I finally saw one of my besties in July after months which was so nice. Thankfully the weather has been nice enough during July to allow for plenty of walks. I’m still not sure how I feel about meeting in restaurants and cafes yet but that will come in time.

Most of my events for the rest of the year have been cancelled with Frozen the Musical moving to next year. And Addams Family moving too. During August I have two social events planned, strangely enough on consecutive days. I’m finally going to meet some of my new work colleagues for a picnic which I can’t wait for! It will have been about 4.5 months by then that we’ll have worked together. And then the following day I’m meeting a few friends to grab dinner. I’m excited to head into London and just experience what it’s all like. I don’t think anything is going to change in the near future in terms of masks and social distancing.

Trying to get back to some form of normality

I hate the whole saying of the ‘new normal’ but I’ve been trying to embrace it as much as possible. I’ve been into the shopping centre a few times but not to browse, I’ve always tried to go with a specific list as I’m not ready to just browse. I’ve only been to few places since facemasks have been a requirement. But I’ve been quite impressed in most places that people have been mainly sticking to it.

I’ve debated a few times about going to a restaurant to grab dinner. But takeaways have been the closest I’ve gotten. Although I do have a booking for the very start of August to take advantage of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme. Thanks to Red Letter Days I got to treat my mum to an at-home afternoon tea which was really nice.

My fitness has been very up and down lately, although I am certainly walking more which is great. I’m debating whether to find a local fitness trainer soon as I always feel better when I have someone tell me what to do. That’s why I used to love classes at the gym so much.

I’ve finally had my hair cut as well which was well overdue. My hair grew so blooming long that I had quite a few inches cut off but I feel so much better now it’s cut.

The new house

We’re in the final month of sorting out the house before we move in with plans for Mid- August. Here’s my month 4 home renovation diary which went live last week. The most exciting thing from my perspective has been emptying our storage unit and taking things over to the new house. We’ve had our unit since last February so it was about time to get rid of it. Plus it means that I’ve had some time to organise things and unpack as much as I can.

What have you been up to in July?

I’m not quite ready to embrace the new normal just yet. I’m the same, just takeaways for the moment. I feel safer as there seems to be a rise of cases of the dreaded C virus now people are heading out to eat at restaurants.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah I think too much opened too quickly and some people (not all) just aren’t keeping precautions which is why our cases are slowly rising x

Exciting that you’re nearly in to your new house. I had to live through a complete house redecoration (with two small kids) and it wasn’t pretty!! Good luck for moving day!

I’m the same , this whole ā€˜new normal’ has really been making me feel all kinds of things but we need to try and get back to some kind of normal for our mental health . Hope you have a lovely meal out šŸ™‚

Oh how exciting to be nearly in the house, what a great thing to be able to focus on. I keep debating about going out to eat too but so far haven’t gone for it.

We went to London yesterday and have never seen it so quiet the tubes were empty and even Leicester Square and Covent Garden were quiet as well.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah I bet it’s quiet as you normally get so many tourists and people aren’t travelling now x

I agree with you, I am not ready for the new norm as well but we are slowly heading to outdoor cafe and grabbing an ice-cream when we head out for walks. Also keen to book the Eat Out Help Out which we have not contibuted yet

I went to TGI Fridays this week for the deal and they were so good with their precautions, every other table was being used, I was so impressed x

House moves are so much fun but stressful at the same time however so rewarding! The new normal is weird and it will take a while to get used to it right?

    • Rhian Westbury says:

I think as we’ve been able to move slowly it’s not been too bad but yeah I can’t wait to get in next week hopefully x
