Oral hygiene and being able to keep your teeth clean and healthy is incredibly important. If we don’t look after our teeth, gums or mouth properly it can lead to things like tooth loss or gum disease. Your smile is one of the first things someone will notice about you. And being confident in your teeth will help you project confidence when you smile.
I’m going to be totally honest and say I’m not totally confident with my smile. I had braces on very early (around 11) and since then my teeth have moved and are no longer totally straight. And I have had issues with my gums in the past. But in the past few years, I’ve been putting a lot more effort into my oral hygiene. Here are some inexpensive ways to keep your teeth clean and healthy.
In order to keep your teeth clean and healthy, the obvious place to start is to wash your teeth twice a day. First thing in the morning it will help freshen up your mouth. And last thing at night to clean your teeth after a day of eating and drinking. You’ll want to try and opt for a toothbrush which can reach all the various parts of your mouth. The Colgate 360 Sensitive Pro Toothbrush is a great choice designed to not just brush your teeth but it has a tongue and cheek cleaner. It’s so important to tackle these areas as well to help reduce bacteria build-up.
Don’t just stop at a quick brush of your teeth. Mouthwash is a great thing to use to rinse your mouth out and help clean your whole mouth. Not only will it kill any additional bacteria but it will help freshen up your breath. To keep your teeth clean and healthy I’m trying to get more into the habit of using mouthwash daily. But it’s going to take a while to get into the habit. Although one thing to consider is that you shouldn’t use it straight after you’ve brushed your teeth as it will wash away the concentrated fluoride in your toothpaste. Instead, you should use it after you eat or drink.
I’m sure we’ve all been told to floss more every time we go to the dentist but it’s truly important. It’s a way to remove any plaque build-up in between your teeth. This means any food particles which might be wedged in and missed are removed. I’m not a huge fan of the thin string floss and as my teeth are quite closely packed together I use dental tepe’s which push between each tooth to ensure there’s nothing lurking there.
It’s important to visit your dentist regularly for checkups and cleaning. This way if there is an issue or an area which needs to be tackled it can be picked up early before it becomes a problem. If you notice anything like sensitivity, gum bleeding or pain tell your dentist as they can look into the problems.
I hated going to see the dentist as I found it a bit like school where I’d feel like I was doing something wrong. But after upping the frequency of my visits I found my oral hygiene and the health of my teeth has vastly improved.
What’s more, dentists can help to significantly enhance your smile. If you are looking for treatment options, do consider getting mini dental implants at this dental clinic.
Dark liquids like coffee and red wine can be quite damaging for your teeth. Although thankfully I don’t drink either, my vice comes in the form of fizzy drinks. Although thankfully I drink diet sugar-free drinks which are slightly better.
Reducing your sugar intake in both food and drinks can help your teeth as the sugar can eat away at your teeth and cause cavities. It’s worth limiting your intake of acidic drinks like fruit juices and cordials which can have an effect on your teeth if drunk too often.
