Six Home Investments We Made That We Don’t Regret

ring doorbell

Having moved into our new home last month after a while of renovation we’re just happy to be living there. But budgeting for a home renovation can be tough, I know as we went a little over for our renovation. But it was something we had expected. Along the way, we did make a few spendy home investments. Things in our mind that would last a long time and give us joy when using them. Here are six of the home investments we made that we don’t regret.

Ring doorbell

When we started making our plans for the house it was before COVID came along. So we thought we would both be out of the house most of the time at work. We planned to get this doorbell as peace of mind and security. But also so we could let delivery drivers know where to leave parcels. Even though I’m now working from home most of the time it’s still super handy.

We get notifications whenever there is motion outside. Most of the time it’s cars passing or the bin men, but it means we feel a bit more secure being able to watch what’s going on outside. Plus we get notifications when the doorbell goes. So if I’m outside or have the TV on and can’t hear my phone lets me know someone is at the door. The actual doorbell and chime were only just over £100 so one of the cheapest of our home investments.

Home investments- Pop up socket in the island

Now this one wasn’t exactly spendy as the pop-up socket only cost about £30 but it’s more the time and additional work it’s taken. Our kitchen island is pretty sizeable and we didn’t want the only sockets to be on the other side of the kitchen. So we decided to get a pop-up socket installed in the island for convenience. It looks very neat in the island and the guys that did our worktops did a great job cutting the space for it. Now we have the option of using kitchen appliances where ever we want. Plus it’s great for phone charging or if I want to work on my laptop at the breakfast bar.

Instant boiling water tap

Boiling water tap

Now neither me nor Luke drinks hot drinks so a hot water tap might seem like a bit of a strange choice in our home investments. But we decided to get a boiling water tap for the convenience of not needing a kettle. Our boiling water tap costs around £350 and can give a minute of solid boiling water before quickly reheating. It means if we’re making pasta, or I forgot to make the gravy for Sunday dinner it’s ready instantly. Plus when we do have guests around tea and coffee is easy to make. For us, this was a simple choice in our home investments and something we’re sure will last for a long time.

Home investments- Acqualisa shower

Now, this was the biggest investment in our ensuite (full reveal here), but one we do not regret at all even if it was about £900. This is the bathroom we use every single day and as a couple who like very different temperatures for our showers, it’s so convenient to have easy (and instant) temperature control and be able to save our own profiles.

We’ve not even scratched the surface with what technology the shower has within it. But being able to change between the shower heads or the pressure at the click of a button is amazing. Plus as the control is away from the showerhead you can turn it on and get it to the right temperature before stepping in. This is one of the home investments we definitely don’t regret.

Kitchen lights

Samsung fridge freezer

Both of us had dreamed of a large fridge/ freezer with masses of space. And after only having one shelf when we lived with my parents (we all had to make do) we knew we wanted to invest. We actually dropped down a model and saved about £600 in the end. Originally we were going to get one with the integrated tablet but knowing how quick tech changes we opted for the one without. A fridge/ freezer is something which is very important, is used all the time, and will hopefully last for a long time. So we didn’t mind one of our home investments being on this.

Ours is a fridge at the top which opens with double doors which means you can fit very wide things on it. Something which will be very handy at Christmas. The filtered water and ice are plumbed in which means we never need to fill up the filter tank *phew*. And then the bottom opens to two sides of freezer space which is a complete dream. There were some kitchen appliances we didn’t mind spending a little less on but the fridge freezer was important for us.

Home investments- Wifi mesh extender

Now the final one relates to one of the most important things our household has; wifi! I work from home (both in my job and blogging), we stream most things we watch and pretty much everything else needs wifi so we wanted to ensure everywhere in the house had a good connection. Luke did a lot of work with data cables and the mesh extender to ensure that we are never left with a weak signal.

I wouldn’t mind a Ring doorbell, great for peace of mind and added security! Super jealous of your kitchen island… and the extra sockets! It sounds so handy and the island is great for extra storage too! It’s great you are finally in the house after all the renovations! Sim x

Yeah it is amazing from a security perspective to know who is at your front door, and seeing any movement around when you’re not in x

Some great investments here. I keep thinking about the doorbell thing but we have a very odd set up with our house and the neighbours so I am not sure it will be much use for us.

You have to look at these things as a long term gain, they certainly pay for themselves in the end x

It sounds like you have made some great investments here and all of the above sound like really useful items and products to have in your home! The shower sounds amazing and I would definitely have a ring doorbell when I own my own home. The boiling tap is a pretty cool idea too!

I think these are som pretty great investments esepcially for a home you will be staying in for a long time.

I could do with a wifi extender, we have an ex-council house with ultra thick solid walls and the wifi signal struggles to get through. I would love a hot water tap too

We have a Ring doorbell and it definitely gives some peace of mind although I wish it wasn’t quite so sensitive.

I’ve always dreamed of having a boiling water tap in my kitchen!! I always say to my boyfriend when we have one of those I’ll know I’ve made it haha. I genuinely love the idea of being able to make a hot coffee in just a few seconds!

As and when we do our kitchen, I think I’d definitely opt for a hot water tap, it just makes so much more sense to have one.
