Can you believe Christmas is less than two months away now?! It’s kind of a little mental in my eyes as it doesn’t feel like we’re coming to the end of 2020. Although for that particular reason I’m pretty happy about even though 2020 has actually been a pretty epic year for me. Well, the first few months at least.
I brought you a post on making your own hamper last week. But this week I’m back with my first official gift guide and it’s for the home lovers. As someone who moved in 2020, I know home gifts are going to be something we’ll be asking for. So whether you know someone who’s just moved, you’re buying for a couple who live together or for someone who just loves home decor here are a few ideas.
If you’re looking for more stocking filler ideas for home lovers then check out places like The Works, B&M and Wilko for some great items.
If you’ve seen my office reveal post you’ll know I have a slight addiction to The Nightmare Before Christmas. So when I spotted this Miss Mindy Jack Skellington Figurine* (£45) I know it would make a great addition to my collection. I’m sure we all know someone who has a particular Disney movie or character (or Harry Potter) they love so buying something that touches on that is a lovely thoughtful gift.
The thing I love in particular about the Miss Mindy collection is that they’re a little bit quirky. Yes, they’re your traditional characters. But they’re depicted in an unusual way which is what I love about it. Each piece is hand-painted so it’s even more unique as there may be slight variations on the pieces. My Jack figurine has pride of place in my cabinet display and I can’t wait to add more to the collection.
I’ve spoken about my love for Portmerion quite a few times before, especially the Sara Miller collection. Everything about the bold colours and the bird designs is stunning and makes for a fantastic at-home tea set. If you’re buying for home lovers who like a spot of tea then the Chelsea teapot* (£60) could be what you’re looking for. This teapot is in my favourite Sara Miller colouring the bold green with her signature designs embellished in 22-carat gold. A sure-fire statement in any home.
It holds 2 pints so is the right size for at least four cups of tea. So it would be great for hosting afternoon tea. Or for someone who just drinks a lot of tea (I know plenty of them!) It’s made from fine china but doesn’t feel thin or too delicate that you’ll worry about handling it.
If you’re looking for a present for someone who loves entertaining then these serving platters from Mason Cash would be a great gift. Firstly how beautiful are the colours?! You can get them in sage green or beautiful orange. They don’t just look great but they’re made from durable stoneware and are dishwasher safe, win-win!
I have the large leaf platter* (£16), medium leaf plater* (£11.20) and small leaf platter* (£8.80) and they’re going to be great to use around Christmas and fill with canapes, nibbles or sweet treats. The platters come from the In The Forst range by Mason Cash inspired by folk tales from the mid-19th century. So there are a lot of forest scenes, animals and a feeling of nature.
2020 has been a strange year on the property market, but I’m sure most of us know someone who has moved this year. And Kindred Fires have plenty of gift ideas for those celebrating their first Christmas in a new home. The brand believes that whatever the occasion a candle makes for the perfect gift. And I have to agree. I absolutely love getting candles for Christmas and tend to have them burning throughout the Autumn and Winter months.
I got sent this new home Christmas candle* (£16) which I absolutely love. Not only is the design really beautiful which you can have personalised with the recipient’s name on it and the year. But it has one of the best Christmas scents; orange and cinnamon. The candles are handcrafted in the brand’s Manchester studio with natural soy with a burn time of 25 hours.
It wouldn’t be Christmas without getting a good bottle of your spirit of choice. For most of our family, that spirit is Gin and I’m always on the hunt for something different, something I’ve not heard of before. And this year it’s Swedish Hernö* (£30.45) which won the most awards back at the Gin Masters in 2013.
When I was reading up on this gin it said you could smell the pine trees burst out of the bottle. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as pine has never struct me as a scent that would make me want to drink something. But somehow this did. The sweet juniper and spicy coriander note balance out the pine. If you’re looking to buy for home lovers who are gin fans then this is a great option and one they may not have heard of which is a bonus.
I’m a big fan of anything that can keep things organised, especially when it looks as awesome as the Hippo Desk Tidy* (£35). Even without it being an organisation tool where you can store things it looks pretty darn awesome. The greeny-blue exterior is so detailed and it’s so striking sitting on a desk or sideboard.
We’ve named our hippo ‘Humphrey’ and he’s not like a regular hippo, his appetite consists of keys, money and bits and bobs. We have it on our mantlepiece where Luke puts his keys and wallet. And it’s a great addition to the space. If you’re looking for a pretty yet practical present that will make someone smile then this is it!
2020 has sure been a strange year and throughout it, a lot of us have gotten into new habits. One of those being at-home workouts. I rarely ever worked out at home, but now I cycle at least 4 times a week and I feel great for it. If you’re looking for a little present for someone you know is working out at home then a sports towel* (£9.99) would be a great gift.
These ones from Ramer are super absorbent and come in a canister for easy storage. I tend to have mine hanging over the handlebars on my bike on hand for those tough workouts. Perhaps you could add this into a little workout hamper with a new water bottle or some workout clothes.
Ever since moving into our house earlier this year, we’ve been searching for the right artwork for each space. I know a lot of people with their own houses in similar positions so if you’re buying for someone who has just moved, or just someone who loves homeware then artwork is a great option. I recently stumbled across Ink and Drop who have a great selection of prints you can get with or without frames.
One of the things I love about Ink & Drop is that they’re a small, family-run business run by four people; two designers and their partners juggling being parents with creating awesome artwork. The team have backgrounds in fine art, interior design, graphic and poster/ print design so you know you’ll get good quality and unique artwork. Above is the 3 palm trees* (From £13) which are going to hang in our second bedroom alongside the New York photography print* (From £13) very soon. Lookout on my blog and Instagram to see what they look like up.
We all have that special song that means something to us. Perhaps it’s from your favourite artist, it was your first dance at your wedding, or it simply makes you smile. The personalised song lyric print* (From £19.99) is great to showcase that special song. Handmade in London you can put a lyric (or anything you want) up to 150 characters on a bespoke print.
You choose the lyric, you choose the background colour, you choose the font colour and you can even get it framed. We opted for the teal background colour as it’s a nice pop of colour in our dining room. But you can go for silver, gold, rose gold, turquoise or teal.
There’s nothing better than playing a good board game with friends or family, especially at Christmas. For us, it’s a bit of a tradition to play games after dinner so we can relax and have fun. If you’re looking for a present for someone who loves games or loves to host then the Taskmaster Game* (£19.99) from Ginger Fox is a great choice.
Taskmaster is one of the best TV shows out and knowing there’s a board game version got me very excited. You can host your own version of the show from the comfort of your home. Included are a variety of tasks including kitchen tasks, garden tasks, secret tasks and so much more. It’s the kind of game that will bring everyone together and invoke a lot of laughter.
