Day Trips, Escape Rooms and All The Good Food- August 2021 Overview

This summer has been a strange one as we haven’t really had a summer. So August 2021 being over already makes me feel a little cheated. Yes Autumn is my favourite season and I can’t wait for it to roll around, but even I wish we’d had a bit more sunshine. I’d have liked to have some more BBQs (we only managed one), and some more time to wander around outside. But that’s not to say that August wasn’t a great month anyway.

Here’s what I got up to in August 2021:

Day trips to the South Coast

During August I went on two day trips to the south coast and it was nice to get out of our local area. The first one was mid-month to see a friend and her fiance in Portsmouth. The weather on the day was beautiful and we got a chance to catch up, have a wander round Southsea and enjoy a nice lunch. We were very lucky with the drive as well as we didn’t hit any traffic either way, although I’m sure if I had been in the driving seat we would have!

Then on the Sunday of the August 2021 Bank Holiday weekend I got on the train to Brighton to meet two friends. I had a little wander beforehand but we did all the typical things; ate chips on the beach, wandered the seafront and had ice cream. I really want to go back to Brighton to explore a bit more and see more of the town but that’s one for after another time.

Escape rooms and entertainment in August 2021

August 2021 was chocca filled with entertainment including two escape rooms. The first one was an Alice in Wonderland themed one in Watford which was fun with nice theming but was definitely a more beginner room. We got out in 30 mins! But then we did a Sherlock themed escape room with two friends which was so good. The challenges were well thought out and I loved the theming and official connection to the TV show. We got down to the final puzzle in this room so ended our escape room winning streak here!

August was a slower month for movies with just two. The Suicide Squad was an amazing start to the month and one of the best films I’ve seen in a while. I loved the characters, but don’t get too attached to them! Then I headed to see Free Guy because any film with Ryan Reynolds in is good with me! And I really enjoyed this one.

I went to see my first show at the Milton Keynes theatre in August 2021 which was Grease. I headed there with my parents and it was such a fun show. Everyone knows the movie. But what most people don’t know is that movie was based on a theatre show and things are a bit different in the original. For example the guys group aren’t the T Birds, they’re the Burger Shop Boys! Either way it was great fun!

Beef Wellington Experience at Gordon Ramseys Bread Street Kitchen

All the good food

It wouldn’t be a monthly overview without some good food and I had some great food in August 2021. Me and Luke had a voucher for the Beef Wellington experience at Gordon Ramsey’s Bread Street Kitchen then we took advantage of. It was a great experience meal and something I’m so glad we did.

The following weekend we took Luke’s parents to Hawksmoor for a steak dinner. It’s one of our favourite places to eat and the meal (and cocktails) didn’t disappoint. Then the month ended with a bittersweet meal at Dishoom. On the positive Dishoom breakfast is one of my favourites. But on a sad note it was a goodbye meal to a few of our team which was sad. But it was nice that we were able to get together one last time.

We also found out that Cinnabon exists in the UK and Luke went on an adventure to get some for us. I’ve loved the Cinnamon Buns ever since I had them in America, but I’d never tried the Chocolate Buns. And they were insane!

Everything else in August 2021

At the very start of August we were booked in for our second COVID vaccines so we now have our passports ready for events and places where we may need it. We did a second visit to our wedding venue this month aswell to meet with the wedding coordinator. We hadn’t met her before as she was on furlough when we first booked but it was great to go over our initial plans and see the space again. It cemented in our minds even more so that we made the right decision.

Bank Holiday weekend came at a great time as I had a nice four day weekend. The extra day was booked as me and Luke headed into London for another laser eye consultation for him. Some of you may remember a few months ago he was booked in but the clinic shouldn’t have booked him in and on the day the surgeon wouldn’t do it. We went to a more specialised clinic and the whole experience was so much nicer. And the surgeon who would do the surgery saw Luke and his info so we know that this time it will go ahead.

And one of the most exciting things is that our bathroom has now about 95% finished. But enough that I can finally have a bath again. I had my first one on Bank Holiday Monday and it was glorious!

How was your August 2021? What did you get up to?

I didn’t know there was an escape room experience in Watford, I really want to try one soon.

There are actually two of them, but the one further down near the Tesco Express and McDonalds is better than the new one in Charter Place I think x
