Thoughts, Goals & Plans For The Year Ahead

Happy 2022 to you all, hope you all had a good break and are refreshed for a new year. I can’t believe how quickly the past year has gone and that I am just over a week away from turning 32. How quickly time goes! Over the break I was thinking a lot about the year ahead, the past year or two we’ve had.

Last year I spoke about not setting myself goals for the year as we had no idea with the virus how 2021 would pan out. And to be honest we’re no better off a year later. While I don’t like resolutions as such like ‘This year I will quit X’ or ‘This year I will lose X pounds’, I do like having goals to work towards. And that’s what this post is all about, some of my goals and plans for the year ahead.

For the year ahead- Take better care of my body

Ever since I got my Peloton bike about 13 months ago I finally have a bit of a workout routine. And I’m working out more regularly than I ever have before. But I want to amp this up a bit to continue to take better care of my body on the inside. This year I want to mix in some more activities that aren’t just cycle classes or light weights for my arms. I enjoyed the intro to Barre class I did so I want to do more of that. And once I get some more weights I want to do more strength classes and help my body get stronger.

Taking better care of my body also includes trying to eat a bit better. Now I enjoy food, and I know I’m never going to be a size 8, but I want to eat more nutritiously so my body gets all the good stuff it needs and deserves. I’m not going to set myself any specific goals of losing weight, but I would like to get back to tracking my calories and food so I can monitor things.

With the wedding officially next year I do want to take better care of my teeth as well. I’ve never had a filling or anything like that but they’re not at their best. This oral care kit* will do me well at home and something I want to get into the habit of using regularly. But I know I need to book in with a hygienist as well, and maybe even look into teeth whitening closer to the wedding day.

Mental health

Taking better care of my body doesn’t just mean physically, but also mentally. The new year is a really good time to think about your mental health. One thing I really want to ensure is that if I feel I need help or support to ask for it. That might be from a family member, or friend, or equally from a professional third party like a private psychiatry. There’s nothing wrong with asking for help and support.

Get as much wedding planning completed as possible

I can officially say that our wedding is next year which is crazy. We did a bunch of big things last year; venue, food, band, and photographer/ videographer. But this is the year of everything else so I just want to start ticking things away so that there’s very little to do for the start of 2023 (except for paying for things!)

Like the true spreadsheet lover I am, I have everything listed out and we have tasks for each month to keep us on track. This starts with booking some dress appointments and reaching out to some florists this month. And each month there’s a new task or booking to do. At the moment I don’t feel stressed, but ask me again in 9 months’ time and my views may have changed.

For the year ahead- Get our garage finished

The only other renovation we have left to complete is our garage. We were naive in thinking we’d do it the year we moved in, then we said 2021 would the year, and neither happened. But in 2022 it’s our number one priority for the house.

I want my nice clean utility room and have the proper space to store excess items. And I want Luke to have his own space to relax in, plus this means I’ll get back the space upstairs where boxes of his stuff are currently located. If you want to find out more about what we’re planning for the renovation I did a post back in the summer of 2020, but I’ll be documenting the progress both on Instagram and here.

Try to make some more sustainable swaps

The final thing I want to do is try to make some more sustainable swaps around the house. There are some swaps we’ve made that have really stuck like we only cook on reusable silicone baking mats. And I only use reuseable cotton pads for my skincare routine. But there are definitely more things I can do around the house.

I have now found a good eco-friendly toothbrush that I can use when I go away and don’t want to take the electric one. But I also want to find a good sustainable razor so I can stop being cheap plastic throwaway ones.

What are your goals and plans for the year ahead?

Happy New Year, and how exciting that you can say your wedding is next year and all the planning for it. My teeth suffered terribly through pregnancy and are terrible I go to the dentist and get told I have a good regime but nothing can be done

I’m hoping to make some more eco-friendly product swaps this year, starting with all the light bulbs in our house!

Great goals! Love the new year for goal setting. Garage is one of our goals loosely for this year (as I want to focus on bathrooms at minimum they are a must this year!)

Fingers crossed that you achieve all of your goals. My main goals are to grow my business and pay off as much debt as possible so these two go hand in hand.

I enjoyed reading this and hope 2022 is going well for you so far. Like you, I am trying to eat a bit more healthily this year, after last year being diagnosed as prediabetic. I hope to avoid full-blown diabetes by eating better and losing some weight.

I really want a Peleton, not that we have space for one currently, but I miss my old spinning class that got cancelled when the instructor emigrated to Australia x
