Poppy shirt dress and cable knit cardigan

*These items were kindly gifted to me in exchange for a post on preparing for the colder weather. But all words and thoughts are my own

Autumn is my favourite time of the year, and it seems like I’m not alone.

There’s something special about the darker evenings; the chill in the air and the excuse to drink hot chocolates and light candles. But for me its Autumn fashion that fills me with happiness. I struggle in the summer to cool down, especially this year. Autumn brings about it knitwear and boots, but without it feeling like minus 100.

Prepare for the colder weather with comfy warm layers

It’s starting to get cold indoors, but with the energy prices as they are it’s like a game to see how long you can hold off having the heating on. So that’s why it’s more important than ever before to have super comfy and casual knitwear to keep you warm indoors.

Cord stretch skirt and blue cardigan

I have been wearing this zip fleck cardigan* so much over the past few weeks both indoors and outdoors. It’s made from a really soft and comfortable knit so it’s lovely to snuggle into at home. And unlike a jumper it has a zip-front which I appreciate as sometimes I overheat with jumpers. You can just pull down the zip a little way to not get too warm. And it has small front pockets, perfect for filling with snacks. I have this beautiful flecked busy colour, but you can also get it in a damson purple colour as well.

It was a good thing that I such a warm cardigan because I spent a few days wearing skirts due to a recent leg tattoo. The stretch cord midi skirt* from Cotton Traders is such a comfortable skirt to wear as it’s got an elasticated waistline. And it has pockets deep enough to put your phone in. I know this skirt is going to be something I’ll get so much wear out of this Autumn/ Winter pairing it with tights or leggings.

Pink cable knit jumper

Even knitwear can be dressed up

It isn’t just casual-ware that can do with a warming knitwear addition. I love to wear a dress, but it isn’t always warm enough. So you can prepare for the colder weather with some really nice jumpers that can be worn over the top.

You can’t see too much of the poppy maxi shirt dress* I am wearing but it’s absolutely beautiful. It’s a comfortable floaty design with long sleeves, elastication on the back waist, and a full button up front. And with the right shoes and accessories it can really be dressed up. And the pretty is just stunning.

If you’re looking to layer a jumper over the top I always find collared tops or dresses look the smartest. And this dressed paired so nicely with the Stella cable jumper* in bright pink. There’s something special about a cable knit. It’s classic and smart so an easy style of jumper to dress up. And this one is so soft to touch, even once I took it off I just wanted to cuddle up to it. I couldn’t resist going for the bright pink as it matched the shirt dress so well, but you can go more classic with a navy or ivory as well.

If jumpers aren’t your thing then a classic cable knit cardigan* would be a great alternative. I have the navy as it’s so versatile and will go with most things.

Great photos. I love this time of year as well. The autumn leaves are stunning at the moment, covering everywhere in a carpet of yellow and gold.
