Welcome To Springtime – March 2023 Overview

During I will start this with the same speech I always do. Blah blah, the month went so quickly, blah blah blah, where is this year going etc.  But it’s true. How are we into April already?! March 2023 was over again in a blink, but it was another great month.

With the clocks moving forward, it’s starting to feel like Spring. It’s nice still having plenty of light outside at 7 pm, so it’s not already dark when I finish work.

One of the most annoying things to happen during the month was a costly bit of car damage. When I was driving home from work one day, a lorry didn’t merge into the right lane of a roundabout and ended up hitting the front of my car, smashing my headlight. As it had damaged the LED light, we had to order a whole new unit which was around £400. Plus, for the two weeks or so when it happened, I couldn’t drive in the dark as I had no headlamp.

Thankfully that was the only disaster during the month. Here’s a bit about what I got up to during March.

Entertainment in March 2023

Over the month, I went to two musicals, one movie screening and a gig.

Starting off with the gig, which was Hundred Reasons, right at the start of the month. It was such a fun show in Hammersmith, and I got to catch up with a few friends, which is always nice.

Me and Luke went to see 65 at the cinema. I saw it was Adam Driver and dinosaurs, so I didn’t need any more convincing. It was a pretty good movie and something a bit different. We had hoped to see Shazam but went at the start of April instead.

Theatre-wise, me and friend went to see the Great British Bake Off musical, which was just as cheesy as you’d expect but good fun. Then me and Luke used a trusty Red Letter Days voucher to see Book of Mormon right at the end of the month. We’ve both seen it before, but never together, and it was a really fun evening.

Upside down world

Books, films and TV

I couldn’t talk about March without talking about some of the bits of content and media that I have been consuming.

During March, I read slightly fewer books overall, but I achieved something I never thought I would, by reading a huge 800+ page high fantasy book. I set myself the challenge of going out of my comfort zone with reading during the year. And I’m so glad I did, as I loved The Priory of the Orange Tree.

My main obsession over March 2023 was Daisy Jones and the Six on Prime TV. The book by Taylor Jenkins Reid has been on my mind ever since I listened to it about eighteen months ago. And seeing it come to life on the screen was amazing, especially all the music and the actors learning to become a band. The only thing that makes me sad is that I need to remind myself they’re not a real band, and I’ll never get to hear the songs live.

Socialising and a solo date

On the second weekend in March, I took myself on a little solo date in London which included a pancake breakfast, some bookshop browsing and some bakery visits. I love heading out for days on my own as I can do my own thing at my own pace. During the day, I can listen to loads of audiobooks throughout the day, plus it gives Luke a bit of time at home on his own.

I don’t go out and socialise quite as much as I used to. This is partially because I enjoy a slower pace of life now and don’t want always to be spending, but also because everyone has their own lives. But I managed to have dinner with some old work colleagues, go on a dessert date with my best friend and visit a school friend to meet her new baby.

Birthdays and family time in March 2023

Luke’s birthday is in the middle of March. Usually, I’d plan a whole day out for it, but because we’re getting married soon, we said we would keep birthdays lower-key this year. So on his actual birthday, we went round his families and had a takeaway, then a few days later we had dinner at a new pub by us, which was nice.

The day after Luke’s birthday was my mum’s birthday, so we spent the evening with family. Then we had another day together for Mother’s Day the following weekend.

Wedding planning

Our wedding day is coming up quickly, with just six weeks left. So during March, we managed to tick off quite a few things we had to do.

It’s mainly been a month of paying off things, having catch-ups with vendors and the venue, and doing little DIY projects. We headed back to the venue for the first time since last summer and ran through the entire day with them. My mind feels so much better having done this.

I also had my dress fitting right at the end of the month, making everything feel so much more real now.

Completely agree, nothing wrong with a slower pace of life and not spending all the time. The Great British Bake Off musical sounded fabulous though and well worth splurging by the sound of it x

Yes, the clock is ticking and Spring is technically here but, I guess Spring forgot how to act here in California.

We have been going out less too, due to the cost of everything. It’s been kind hard to prioritise spending time outside of our house – but hopefully when things like the beach become warm enough to access, everyone will be out and about again.
