Steps to take to save money when you shop online

I always follow a few steps before I purchase items online to make sure I’m getting the best price.

1. Wait – before I hit purchase I always consider whether I really need the item, and if I need it right at that moment. If I do I add it my basket and leave it for 24 hours to see if the website offers an abandoned cart discount (this only works if you’re logged into your account on the retailer website)
2. Compare prices- if it’s a product that can be bought from multiple places I will check out the prices at different retailers and make a note
3. Check for discount codes- I’ll do a search to see what discount codes are available. I won’t just do this on the cheapest retailer but on a few. Sometimes the best value can be an item which was originally a little more expensive, but has a better discount code
4. Gift card- Once I know the retailer I’ll check my jamdoughnut account to see if I can get a gift card to pay for the item while getting cashback on the purchase
5. Cashback – then finally it’s traditional cashback. I’ll see which cashback site offers the best rate and purchase through there. Sometimes if you’re using a discount code you won’t be eligible for cashback so it’s always worth checking the T&Cs.

The whole process doesn’t need to take a long time, and it’s worth it if you can save some money.
