The Year So Far- Reflecting On Our 2025 Goals

It’s hard to believe that we’re approaching the mid point in the year in the next month. So I wanted to do a post reflecting on our 2025 goals. Although this is a little earlier than I’d usually do it. That’s because at some point in the next four weeks our baby girl is due to arrive, and at that point my brain won’t be functioning enough to write this!

While I’m not a huge fan of resolutions, I do love a yearly (and monthly) plan. It helps me to plan better and ensure we’re focusing on the right areas.

At the very start of the year I talked about our home and money goals for 2025, so let’s check in and see how we’re doing with them.

Reflecting on our 2025 goals- home

Finish up our utility renovation

Our first home related task was finishing our utility renovation. We didn’t have too much left to do at the start of the year, but Luke and his dad finished our bespoke cabinet back in January. And in just the last week or two Luke’s done the finishing touches just to tidy up the space. So that’s the coving, skirting etc.

I’m so happy that this project is now complete, although I’m sure there will always be extra bits we want to add.

Our garden log cabin project

We came into 2025 with a plan to build a log cabin in our garden and I’m pleased to say the project is pretty much 95% complete.

This was quite a quick project as we needed to free up some space before baby arrives. So this moved very past. Luke and his dad worked so hard to get the structure up after our concrete base was poured. Luke built the internal wall and kitted it out himself, and I couldn’t be happier with how it looks.

The only things that need finishing are a coat of paint around the door/ windows. Then Luke wants to build some shelves in his half of the cabin. But those are so minor, and the space is super functional.

I did a more in-depth post on this project a few weeks ago, so check out our log cabin.

Fit our electric fireplace

You can tell that we’re trying to get as much done before baby arrives as possible. And the next project is fitting our electric fireplace.

We bought it during the Black Friday sales and it’s been waiting until now to be fitted. Luke and his dad have a weekend planned in early June to do this, so fingers crossed this will be completed very soon.

Get our upstairs back windows replaced

This project was ticked off near the start of the year and I love how the windows look.

We’re slowly replacing the windows in our home and the ensuite, bathroom and third bedroom windows were next on the hit list. Our ensuite used to be a bedroom so was a normal window that we had to stick film to. But now it’s a proper frosted window and looks so much neater. We got a matching smaller one in our bathroom, and then a new window for the babies room.

Reflecting on our 2025 goals- all things money

Save £5,000 into a sinking pot

When we put this on our 2025 goals we didn’t say what the sinking pot was for (as we hadn’t officially told the world that we were pregnant). But this sinking pot was for everything to do with baby. We had a lot of stuff to buy, and things to do and this sinking pot was to cover all of that.

And we managed to hit that number earlier in May which was amazing. We also managed to incorporate savings for Luke to have time off when she arrives. Being self employed means he can take as much time off as he wants which is great. But the downside is it’s all unpaid so we’ve had to plan for this.

Increase our emergency fund by £1,000

We have our emergency fund saved in capital bonds so there are no temptations to spend it. And slowly we’ve been adding to it, but we’re still a little way of hitting the £1,000 target for the year.

So far this year we’ve managed to add £555 to the pot, which is still good progress and more than half of our goal. But with my maternity leave coming up, and having a baby to pay for I can’t see this going up too quickly for the rest off the year.

Reduce or pay off our solar loan

We had to take a bit of a pause on paying this off (thankfully it’s a loan with family) with everything going on with the baby coming. We do only have about £4,000 left to pay and I’m confident this will be cleared off very soon. But it’s not our number one priority for 2025 any more.

How are you getting on with your 2025 goals so far?
