The Self Care Practices I Swear By in My 30s

Self care has definitely evolved for me over the years. In my 20s, it was more about pampering — bubble baths and sheet masks. And while those things still have their place (trust me, I’ll never say no to a good bath), being in my 30s has shifted how I think about looking after myself.

Now, self care is less about quick fixes and more about creating habits. It’s about what helps me function well and feel good.

These are some of the self care practices that I now swear by, and they’ve honestly made a big difference to how I move through life.

1. Prioritising sleep

I used to treat sleep like something that got in the way of getting things done. In my early 20’s I was a 1-2am sleeper, and the thought of that now just makes me tired.

In my 30s, I’ve realised it’s the foundation of everything — mood, focus, energy, even decision-making. I aim for 7–8 hours a night which was impossible when Scarlett was a few months old, but now it’s more important than ever.

It’s the most basic form of self care, but the one that affects everything else.

2. The weekend reset

When during the weekend this happens varies, but I like to prep for the week ahead. This usually means reviewing my to-do list for the coming week, prepping some food for Scarlett (and sometimes me).

It sets the tone for the week and I know when I’m off maternity leave and back at work this will be even more important.

3. Saying ‘no’ without guilt

This one took me a while to learn, but it’s been life-changing. I’ve stopped saying yes to things that drain me or I can’t afford— whether that’s social plans, extra work, or even just favours I don’t have the capacity for.

Saying no respectfully (and without over-explaining) has given me so much more time and energy for the things that actually matter.

4. Getting outside

I’d love to say I go for walks everyday, but that’s just not realistic. I don’t hit my step goals every day, but getting outside is great for my mind.

Even just 20 minutes outside helps me reset, and fresh air just feels good. And I know it’s really good for Scarlett as well. Usually I’ll walk in silence and just take in my surroundings, but other times I’ll have a podcast in.

5. The everything shower/ body routine

Once a month (or more if I can manage it) I’ll do an everything routine. Everything from body scrubs and hair masks to shaving and face masks.

Some of these things get done at other points in the month, other things like hair masks just get put off. I find having a good hour or two to just feel really refreshed by doing everything feels great.

6. Letting go of the ‘all or nothing’ mentality

Perfectionism has held me back before. But these days, I’ve embraced the idea that done is better than perfect. Whether it’s a 10-minute workout, a quick clean-up, or just ticking one thing off my to-do list, I celebrate small wins. Because they all count.

Self care practices

Self care in your 30s doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. It’s about finding what recharges you and helps you feel more like yourself. These are the practices that work for me — and maybe they’ll work for you too.

What are your go-to self care rituals?

Sleep is a huge priority for me. If I don’t get a solid 8 hours every night, I am not productive, and I am NOT friendly. LOL.

I feel like you’ve stepped into my brain! Haha. Self care in your 20’s is totally different to your 30’s. Simplified and intentional! I love point 6 too. Small wins are so important to recognise and celebrate. Positivity spreads so much more easily this way,

I’m totally the same! Self care looks so different now compared to my twenties. These days it’s more about quiet time at home and small routines that actually help.

Self care is everything and I just love it although I will admit that I have not been providing myself with much in terms of self care as of late. This post has inspired me and I am going to treat myself today!

I should definitely do more of what you mentioned, especially going out more which I don’t do enough. The weather doesn’t help much for it’s finally Spring and I can’t wait for warmer weather.

A weekend reset is something I have been doing for a few months and has been a game changer , I’d be lost without it now.
