I’m going, to be honest, my thoughts of having a fitter healthier 2017 didn’t really pan out and it’s only been in the last week or two where I’ve really stopped and done something about my diet having properly re-started back at Slimming World. I am feeling really positive about the changes and I’m hoping 2018 will be the year that I hit my target weight and develop a healthier relationship with both food and my body.
Hand in hand with my diet goes my fitness schedule. Now again 2017 wasn’t a great month for fitness and I feel that I let myself down a bit from how well I was doing at the gym last year. For this reason, I want to set myself some fitness goals for 2018.
Last month I bought some at home dumbbells which I had hoped to use at home but currently, they’re sat in the boot of my car as they’re too heavy for me to bring upstairs in one go which is a total fail. I love doing weights and always find a 20-minute session in the gym makes me feel like I’ve worked harder than a lot longer on the bike or other cardio machines. Next year I want to set them up in my spare bedroom and do something each day even if it’s just 10 minutes before getting ready for work as it will put me in a better position.
I do aqua aerobics every week but I don’t actually swim and I know it’s a life skill which is slowly passing me by. When I did my intro scuba diving class and had to swim so many lengths I really did struggle so it’s something I want to get into more. I used to be able to go under the water easily but now I struggle without my eyes stinging so I’ll need to pick up some swimming goggles to keep my eyes happy.
Currently, I have a combination of supermarket and Primark workout gear and although the quality might be fine I do want to invest in some better quality items which will be better for my body but also give me confidence and make me feel better about myself.
I’ve spent quite a lot of time searching around online but struggled to find much which is affordable, good quality and caters to an XL size. Thankfully I came across excell-sports.com who have a great collection of workout gear. I started off with their New Balance Women’s Accelerate Short Sleeve T-shirt* to see how it would fare in both cardio and weight based work out’s and it did a great job.
It’s true that sometimes simple is best, firstly the Poisonberry colour is absolutely stunning and makes a change from the dark greys and blacks that I usually wear. As the top is made out of 100% Polyester is it so comfortable especially when moving positions doing weights and the mesh panels on the side are great for ventilation as they keep me feeling cool and I’ve not been left feeling horrible and too sweaty after a workout.
I always take the stairs down but I am really lazy in my flat when it comes to going up. I live on the second floor so it isn’t far but if I walked up the stairs each time it would be at least twice a day if not more and I know it would do me the world of good. The stairs in my office are a bit steeper and I’m on the third floor there so I want to start off gradually and start with my flat and then move on towards my office.

This post is great. I’m looking to work on my fitness next year too – I want to improve my running and swim more.
I have fitness goals too and really want to invest in some sports leggings. I also really want to swim, I find it hard in winter as I really feel the cold but I think I need to try and get over that as it’s such a wonderful way to keep fit.
I need to buy some weights for the new year as it’s on my new years resolution list too. I’m actually looking forward to starting back again.
I’ve really got into swimming after completing a charity challenge earlier this year. I hope you achieve all of your goals – I’m sure you will 🙂
My fitness is a really issue. I walk over 2hrs each day doing the school runs but my cardio is non existent. Need to find a way to incorporate it into my life next year
Good luck with this. I think a lot of this is about getting into new habits – the beginning is always the hardest! I do weights at home and love it and when the weather gets better I’d like to swimming at our local outdoor pool.
These sound like some really achievable goals. I would like to swim more but also struggle because I just don’t do it enough. Good luck x
2017 I definitely struggled with my fitness, I started it off quite badly but in the middle I did well and now it back to being had. Not sure what 2018 will be like fitness wise but wishing you the best
Don’t be too hard on yourself as the main thing is that you are trying and that is what matters! Good luck with your fitness targets x
I am restarting slimming world in January (for the 100th time) and really need to get fit too. Good luck with your goals x
I need to set some fitness goals for 2018 too. Definitely want to start going swimming again!
Great post. I also have some plans for next year in my mind. Lots of swimming so that I can eventually improve my running again. Good look with your goals 🙂
Some great goals! I’m hoping to get fitter and start slimming world next year x
You really are going for it! I love swimming and go at least 3 times per week. i always feel that new training gear gives a massive boost x
These are great fitness goals for sure. I’ve let my fitness slide these last few months – too much travelling and then so much work to catch up on means too much time sitting down typing! Things will change in the new year, for sure.
They sound like achievable targets and quite reasonable. As far as I’m concerned, I am looking for a Krav Maga course where I moved in Spain because I haven’t been able to resume over here.

Swimming more is on my goal list for the new year too. It’s a great all over body workout.
I’m the same. I get married next April and still haven’t got my fitness together. I also bought some new weights and a workout DVD! Time to get it together.
I need to start getting fitter again too. With my back playing up i haven’t been able to exercise for a while and i’m starting to feel slumpy. I am hoping my physio can give me some exercises to start doing so I can feel better again next year.
I really need to get moving in 2018. I am going to enjoy the end of the year and the festivities, then get at it! Great ideas!
Oh I’m the same, I want to really up my exercise game in 2018. Start the year as we mean to carry on!
This sounds like my sort of fitness – I much prefer weights to cardio & I really enjoy swimming. Good luck! x
Me too I need to step it up in 2018. I also need to invest in proper work out gear at the moment I borrow my hubby’s t-shirts lol. Not the best but they’ve served me well up to now.
I love that you’ve included take the stairs more; its one of the easiest, free things to do to help increase fitness levels xxx
