With August being over it feels like summer has been put to bed and I can finally get excited about Autumn which is my favourite time of the year. You can’t beat jumpers, candles, crunchy leaves underfoot and knitted blankets. I had a really fun August with a few festivals and trips away but it’s nice to be taking things a little easier now. Here are some of my favourites from August.
When the weather was really warm I spent some time looking into primer sprays and bought the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water in Citrus. Even now it’s not been warmer I’ve been spraying it on my face as a primer instead of a cream and it’s been really refreshing and seems to add an extra layer of hydration to my skin which I crave. I absolutely love the citrus scent as it’s so fresh and if I’m not totally awake it helps to wake me up. There’s also a coconut flavour which smells like pina colada’s.
I’ve been trying to get my gel nails done less frequently in a bid to help recover my nails so I’ve been beefing up my nail varnish collection recently. The most recent additions are the Caribbean Collection* from All That Jazz. The new collection has four bright summery shades and even when it’s been raining it’s been the splash of colour that I need.
The shades include Jamaican Me Crazy which is a hot pink with a slight shimmer in it, Carribean Queen is a bright royal purple, Don’t Be a Jerky is a coral pink with a sheen finish and Patty Cake is turquoise. I’m not the best at painting my nails but with these you only need two coats and they dry really quickly so I don’t have to worry about snudging them which is generally my downfall.
I bought the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea foil finger paints shadow palette quite a few months ago but in August I used it so much and I absolutely love it. The palette isn’t a very work-friendly palette as it’s so glittery but I’ve worn it so much in the evenings/ weekends especially around festivals. Every single shade is really pigmented and they’re amazing to layer together with the white and black glitters working really well on top of all the others. And the great thing is as they’re finger paints you don’t have to worry about any fall out like you would from a brush!
When I was in Westfield earlier in August I was wondering round the big Boots store just trying out some bits and pieces and I spotted the Glamglow Instamud 60 second Pore-refining treatment. I am all one for a bit of skincare novelty so the fact that this is purple and foams up was enough to convince me to part with my pennies but the product itself isn’t a novelty. After you’ve smoothed on a layer it takes just 60 seconds to foam up and help refine your pores before you wash it off with hot water so it’s really quick to use in the mornings before I shower. Whenever I use it my skin feels noticebly fresher and smoother and it’s a great addition to my morning routine without adding too much time to it.
When ever I am in Primark I always stake the beauty section and the flavoured lip balms are really great value for a moisturising balm. There’s plenty of scents ranging from pepsi and mentos to my all time favourite which is the Reeses Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Balm*.
For the price they’re such great value and they’re just really fun. I remember having lip balms like this as a kid and they just have this real nostalgia feeling about them. In the pepsi collection there’s also the cherry pepsi version which just smells like cherry cola bottles.
I have been wearing an awful lot of this spot print lattice neck woven tee* from Elvi over the past month as it’s light and airy enough to work great on warmer days with a vest top underneath but it can easily be layered up when it’s a little chillier. I am a huge fan of the lattice front as it adds another focal point to the top and of course polka dots seem to be an obsession for me at the moment, although it’s nice to have something which isn’t monochrome black and white.
The sleeves have a slit along the inside making it even lighter and a really comfortable fit. Elvi offer their clothing in such a wide range of sizes from an 8 to 28 so it’s pretty easy to find the perfect size. As I wanted this to be quite flowy and allow me to layer underneath I opted for a size 20 which is a great fit.
My second fashion obsession from August are these mustard plimsoles from Superdry which I picked up from Asos. As soon as I saw them on the new in page I knew I had to pick them up as I pretty much live in plimsoles but don’t have anything bright to pair with a monochrome outfit. They were just £24.99 which is a great price for a decent pair of plimsoles and they’re unbelievably comfortable so I know I’m going to be getting a lot of wear out of them during the Autumn months when it’s not quite boot weather.
