Why It’s Worth Buying Sample-Sized Skincare

Sample-sized skincare is one of my biggest downfalls, I bloody love the stuff. Whenever I’m in the States the Sephora aisle of doom is somewhere I can spend hours. There’s something magical about dinky skincare duos and mini creams. They call my name and I can’t turn away. I’m under no illusion that buying sample-sized skincare works out more expensive in the long run but there are loads of reasons why it’s worth buying sample-sized skincare.

Why it’s worth buying sample-sized skincare- It gives you a chance to try something new

The main reason why I think it’s worth buying sample-sized skincare is it’s the chance to try something new. If I only bought full-sized items I wouldn’t try as many products due to the price. And a lot of sample-sized skincare comes in sets like these: Dr Jart+ Bestsellers (£18), Pixi Flash Facial (£20) and Estee Lauder Power Nap Facial (£32). And sets are a great way of trying lots of products from a brand or mixing up different brands. A lot of the skincare I currently use in full-size have been bought after trying out a sample.

It’s worth buying sample-sized skincare for the variety you get. I only tried Drunk Elephant products for the first time after picking up a few sample sets in New York. I wouldn’t have spent £50+ on a product straight away. But having tried some of the items I now know what I would and wouldn’t part with my money to buy.

You’re not wasting money if the product doesn’t work for you

Skincare doesn’t work for everyone. An item might be perfect for one person, but not quite right for you. That doesn’t make it a bad product, it just makes it not right for you. That’s why it’s worth buying sample-sized skincare because you can make sure it works for you before investing. Skincare can be pretty pricey. And I know how gutted I’d be if I spent £40+ and the product just doesn’t work for me.

Buying sample-sized skincare means you can ensure something works first. If it doesn’t then you’ll have only spent maybe £10 or £12 on it. I tend to find sample-sized items actually last pretty well and I get a good few weeks of use from them. This is enough time to know if they’re going to work for you or not.

They’re perfect for travel

Of course, it’s worth buying sample-sized skincare for travel if nothing else. Yes you can decant your favourite products into small bottles. Or you can just take full-sized items away. But there’s something about those little bottles of products which fills me with joy. I have a whole collection of sample-size or travel-sized items which I have used before and know I like ready for travel. If I’m away I don’t want to risk upsetting my skin and using a new product. So I like to take things which I have tried and tested. And these mini’s do the perfect job.

It’s really important that you state that skincare may not be for you, but that doesn’t make it a bad product! So that people don’t think it’s a waste of money!

My eldest is going through that teenager faze where she wants to try all make up and beauty products, using sample stuff might be a much better idea, great post.

I love little sample sizes. They are the perfect handbag size and a great way to see if it’s the product for you.

I definitely buy sample sized skincare – I don’t see the point in spending out on the full size and then having wasted your money if it doesn’t work for you!

I’d never thought of buying skincare samples! It’s such a good idea to try out products in a small size before purchasing a bigger bottle. I bought a HUGE bottle of a Paula’s Choice cleanser a while back, which was so risky because I’d never tried it before. Thankfully it got on really well with my skin, but if it it hadn’t I would have been wasteful. x

That’s so good that the cleanser worked for you. I hate the idea of spending money on something to not think it’s worth it or not have it work for me x

I totally agree with buying sample sized skincare first before buying a full sized bottle as I have sensitive skin and certain products can cause a rash so I tend to try samples first

My skin gets a bit sensitive sometimes too, and also you can’t always tell if something is really fragranced before you try it and I don’t like overly fragranced products x

I always pick up the trial/sample sized bottles to go in my travel toiletries bag – that way I don’t have to keep on taking things in and out of the bag every time I travel

Completely agree!. I bought a full size product for £48 and didn’t suit my skin at all. It is still in the cupboard!
