Four Ways To Look After Yourself While Things Are Tough

Oh K holographic sheet mask

It’s pretty tough out there at the moment. Some people are being told to self-isolate. While some people are working from home as a precaution. And some people are losing out on valuable work as things keep getting cancelled. Events, gigs and more are being postponed or cancelled. And if you want anti bac, hand wash or toilet paper then be prepared to hunt. Now’s the time to look after yourself properly. Take some time to self-love and practice some self-care to make sure you’re as healthy as you can be. Whilst writing this I am still at work and other than things being cancelled I’m pretty stable. But I’m preparing for that all to change any day now.

Whether you’re functioning as normal, or at home and sick of the sight of four walls, here are some ways to look after yourself while things are tough out there.

Sleep well

Sleeping is one of the most important parts of self-care. When we’re busy and there’s loads going on sleep tends to be the things that slips. We go to bed later burning the candle at both ends. We can’t sleep when we are in bed as our minds are in overdrive. It’s so important to have a tranquil area to relax ourselves and be able to slip into sleep. For us comfort comes from our Leesa mattress and pillows which have changed our sleep game so much.

At the moment the room we sleep in is cluttered due to our living situation. But when we move our biggest requirement for the bedroom is limited distractions and no clutter. I’m also trying to use my phone less before I drift off to sleep and instead read a book. I find this relaxes me, but do whatever you need to try and sleep well. And make sure you get the recommended 7-8 hours. You’ll feel so much better afterwards.

Look after yourself by exercising

I used to roll my eyes at anyone who said they felt great after exercise. But getting back into a vague fitness/ gym routine I can vouch for that. Currently I do a 7am class on a Monday morning and although it’s tough to get out of bed early enough to be ready and at the gym for I don’t regret it. I feel so much better afterwards for doing it, and it starts my week off well. I’m fully aware I need to amp up my fitness routine for sure, but you can look after yourself by making small changes to begin with.

Now you may not be able to get out to the gym at the moment but there’s plenty of things you can do at home. Squats, sit ups, the plank and so much more can be done anywhere with no equipment. You can go round the house and find something with a weight to do some weight training, or go for a run in your garden or around an empty park.

Stash of books

Pamper yourself

I talk about pampering a lot, but I think it’s such an easy way to look after yourself. Facemasks, a relaxing bath, a body scrub or a hair mask. They’re all things which don’t really take much time to do but they’re another thing lots of us drop when things get busy. I know I’m always making excuses and saying next week I’ll do a hair mask, or tomorrow I’ll use a face mask.

I blooming love a good pamper and feel so much nicer when my skin feels clean and my body smooth. Plus it’s a good excuse for me to use up things in my stash a I always have way more than I need

To look after yourself do what makes you happy

Sometimes it’s as simply as doing what makes you happy. That might be laying under a blanket and watching a trashy movie. It might be ordering a pizza and playing video games. Or it might be curling up with a good book. The biggest part of looking after number one is being a little selfish sometimes and doing things for you. Don’t think about what others want to do, do what makes you happy.

For me there are quite a few things which make me happy. I love to bake so if I get stuck at home that’s something I’m going to do with whatever ingredients I have in the cupboard. Reading is something which makes me happy. I’ve been pretty good and gotten through 10 books so far this year and I’m keeping it up as much as possible. And I have so many TV shows and movies on my to watch list.

What do you do to look after yourself?

Some fantastic suggestions! We cannot be of any help to others if we are burnt out and stressed ourselves – or at least, we can’t help in the longer term. So sleep, exercise, and finding something just for us is perfect. Good luck during this difficult time x

I struggle with sleep at the best of times, however, I am taking cues from my body and switching off technology earlier and reading to aid a more restful night’s sleep

These are some great tips. I am stressing out a little bit because of everything as we are moving house too. I definitely need to look after myself a little better.

I am definitely struggling to sleep during all of this – these are such uncertain times. We could all do with looking after ourselves better during this time.

I must admit I am waking up more during the night which I never usually do. I do have plans to pamper myself and enjoy some me time x

My happy is heading to the beach for a bracing walk, but have a feeling we won’t be allowed to do that soon

I think as long as you’re practicing social distancing it’s okay at the moment, but I guess it depends what changes. If you have a back garden you may have to do that? x

These are all great ideas and I know I really need to focus on these over the next few months. I am terrible for not letting myself have any time to myself and I always feel guilty for doing things I would like to do rather than all the stuff I ‘should’ be doing.

I think it’s a nice time to get into good habits as we have the time to do that and then maybe once this madness is over we’ll continue looking after ourselves x

These uncertain times can be really worrying and stressful, I am trying to carry on with my normal day to day routines as much as possible but it is getting harder. Definitely going to spend the time wisely and have quality time with my son going for walks and watching movies

Yeah I think it’s about trying to carry on as normal as much as possible but it’s getting harder and harder x

I’ve had this strange sense of calm during this time. Totally unlike me. I’m using this time to work on my house and online business.

The coronavirus has been worrying me. I am now trying to avoid the news and looking at facebook. So I am focusing on reading books and doing a few different crafts

Quite the important tips to keep in mind. Taking care of one’s self is a must and those are great ideas.

Such weird times aren’t they? I think it’s so important that we all do what we can to look after ourselves and each other right now. That and our immune systems! Take care. x
