Top Five Black Friday Shopping Tips

It’s just a few weeks away from Black Friday which is pretty crazy as this year has disappeared in a flash. Black Friday signals the countdown to Christmas for many as just a few days later we hit December. Going back 5 years Black Friday sales didn’t tend to crop up much in the UK. But as the US trends have flown overseas most retailers now partake in the yearly sales traditions. For some, it’s a time to sell off old stock cheaply. For others, it’s just a time to drag in new buyers and hit sales highs. But most of us need Black Friday shopping tips to make the most of sales.

Last year spending during Black Friday was forecast to reach 8.57 billion pounds which were one of the highest in Europe. While 2020 has been a strange year Black Friday is still set to be an important day where Brits will spend a lot of money stocking up on Christmas presents and other items.

Here are some Black Friday shopping tips to make the most of the sales.

Follow your favourite retailers

Every retailer does Black Friday differently with some doing week-long sales and others restricting discounts to one or two days. It’s worth following your favourite shops on social media and signing up for email newsletters. This way you’ll be among the first to learn about deals and make the most of savings.

Black Friday shopping tips- Research the products you want

I’m sure most of us will buy some items on a whim but it’s worth researching the products you want to buy. There may be a particular perfume you want to buy for your mum or a new TV you want. To stop yourself from going on off-track one of the best Black Friday shopping tips I have is making a list of all of the items you want. This way you’ll have direction when it comes to the sales and order of where you should go (whether it’s online websites or physical stores).

Make an online wishlist

There are certain stores or sites you know will have discounts, for example, Misguided/ Boohoo both tend to do sitewide blanket money off. To set yourself up for quick purchasing and less disappointment create an online wishlist. Browse around online before Black Friday week so you have the right items (or sizes and colours if it’s clothing). Then all you need to do on the day is add them straight to your basket or trolley. This will also help with impulse shopping as you’ll only buy what you know you wanted beforehand.

Black Friday shopping tips- Set up price alerts

If there are any very specific presents you want to buy you can set up price alerts. I’ve spoken about Shoptagr before but anything you know you want, add to Shoptagr and it can alert you when the price goes down. This way you’ll know as soon as it’s gone on sale so you can snap it up before anyone else.

Shop through a cashback sites

You might as well make yourself as much extra money as possible so do any Black Friday shopping through a cashback site like Quidco. It’s free money for buying items you were going to buy anyway. Although it’s worth checking the terms and conditions as for some sites you don’t get cashback if you use discount codes.

I haven’t shopped Black Friday deals in a couple of years as I haven’t seen any exceptional deals. Your point about researching is valid year round, as prices and products change with seasons.
