*Items mentioned have been gifted but all at home date ideas for Valentine’s Day and thoughts on products are my own
This time last year COVID was just a murmur on the news and felt far away from home. But for Valentine’s Day this year, things are very different. Before Christmas, I thought couples who lived together may still be able to go out for dinner with no households mixing. But it’s almost certain that we’re still going to be in lockdown for 14th February this year. But that doesn’t mean the day can’t be special.
I’m going to admit I’m not the biggest fan of the day. It is very commercial and after the novelty of our first year together me and Luke have agreed on no gifts. But we do like to do something special. Most years it’s been an excuse to go out for a fancy meal. But this year we’ll be making the most of time together indoors.
Here are some at-home date ideas for Valentine’s Day.
Movie nights are great ideas for an at-home date, all you need is popcorn, a whole selection of sweet treats, drinks, a blanket to cuddle up in, candles for atmosphere, and a good movie.
For me, one of the best things about movie nights are the snacks and these goodies from Oggs are spot on. We had some of the chocolate fudge cupcakes, some brownie bites, and millionaire bites. A trio of the best treats and they’re all vegan friendly so anyone can enjoy them. The cupcakes are so gooey and the fudge topping was amazing, I could have eaten a whole hub of that. The packs of bites have 9 bite-sized treats in each and are great to nibble on throughout the movie.
I’m the biggest afternoon tea fan and it’s something I’m really missing not being able to do. There’s something special about mini sandwiches and cakes. And scones are my favourite treat! So how about creating your own at-home version?! You can use some of the Oggs goodies I mentioned above, make your own treats, or support a local business and buy afternoon tea from them.
But a great way to make the whole treat special is to grab some special crockery like this Fleabag plate* (£18.50) which not only will show someone you feel about them but also make any Fleabag fan smile. As soon as I saw this plate it really made me smile as I love the show. And it comes with a stand so you can display it afterwards. Or maybe just have it as a decoration on the table as you eat.
I’ve seen plenty of at-home gin and rum-making packages, but never one with bourbon in! This set comes from Red Letter Days* (£55) where you purchase a voucher and then redeem the voucher when you want to.
In the set you’re sent you get six quality 50ml bourbon bottles to taste and you rank the flavours depending on your preference. They range from American Bourbon to Cherry Wood. Then once you have your recipe (and have chosen a brand name) you send that back to Brain Brew and they’ll create and deliver and personalised 200ml bottle of your created bourbon. As far as at-home date ideas go I think this is a great one as you can enjoy trying the spirits as a couple and then have something unique to look forward to when your blend arrives.
Red Letter Days are one of my go-to spots when it comes to gift ideas. Most of what they do are experience gifts and if there’s anything we need at the moment it’s the excitement of knowing we have fun things to do coming up at some point.
Who else just wants to spend Valentine’s Day drinking?! At least it’s not just me! When it comes to at-home date ideas the good thing is you don’t need to travel anywhere when you want to come home. This means a cocktail-making evening is so much easier to do at home. Depending on how you want to do your evening you can pick up some pre-made cocktail cartons where you just add the spirit. Or you can do some research in advance and buy the ingredients you need to make your own.
It’s a good chance to try something new like this Strawberry Cream Liqueur from Tequila Rose which will make beautiful pink Valentine’s Day drinks. It’s silky smooth with rich strawberry cream and a bite of tequila. You could add a splash into an adult cocktail, put a dash into a cocktail or drink it in shot form.

We have always celebrated Valentine’s Day at home since our kids were born so these are great inspiring ideas. The Strawberry Cream Liqueur from Tequila Rose looks so delicious and something I would love to have a go
A movie night is a great idea for a date night for Valentine’s Day or any other day. We need two bowls of popcorn as we both hog the bowl LOL.
Oh yes we need two bowls as we’re not too keen on sharing hehe x
We love Valentine’s Day at home , with having the kids and no family around to watch them , it’s always been at home but we love it ! The oggs treats look absolutely delicious
Great ideas here, Rhian. I think I’ll try some with the kids. 🙂 Although, I’m quite happy to curl up with a book. 🙂
I’m all with you there, I’m happy to curl up with a book, but it’s not the most social activity is it?! haha x
Like you I am not big on the commercial side of Valentines but still love seeing how others celebrate it. Love the ideas in this post.
Fab ideas! We always stay home for Valentine’s Day and have a nice meal and film.
I too love afternoon tea and I guess secretly we all love the romance that goes with valentine’s day. Great products and lovely gift ideas.
I love the idea of a cocktail making evening and it is something I can get all my family involved with as my kids are older now. So much fun! Mich x
Yeah you can, and even without the alcohol, mocktails are fun to make as well with fruit syrups etc x
Lots of great ideas here. I must admit I’m a big afternoon tea fan as well. It wouldn’t have occurred to me to do this for Valentine’s Day, but certainly, why not!
Some lovely ideas! I’d love an at home afternoon tea or to do some cocktail making – thanks for the suggestions.
