It’s Beginning To Feel Like Summer- May 2021 Overview

The Florist Brunch

May 2021: another month that came and went in the blink of an eye. But I’m glad to see the back of the grey rainy skies. It’s finally started to get a bit warmer, the sun is out and it’s made seeing people so much nicer as you can be outside and feel more comfortable.

For the first month in a while, we had some actual plans to go and see people; catch-ups, birthdays, etc. But I have tried to not overdo it. I feel like I’ve found my balance.

Here’s what I got up to over May 2021.

Enjoying some time off work in May 2021

Not only did May give us two bank holidays I also booked off a few extra days from work. I had a nice 5-day long weekend just after the first bank holiday and it was just what I needed. Usually, I hate taking time off work when I’m not going anywhere but it was nice to switch off from work. I spent a full day doing blog work so I could then enjoy the next four days totally off work. I managed to do some shopping in Milton Keynes which was nice. Then later that day we had some deliveries for stuff in our garden.

Over the weekend we had Luke’s sister and her boyfriend around, and then my parents round the other day. Then on the Monday, I met up with a friend for lunch and a walk. It was probably one of my favourite weekends of the year having stuff to do and people to see.

I also had an extra day off work before the late bank holiday which was meant to be when Luke had his laser eye surgery, but more on that later.

The Florist

All the catch-ups with friends

Now we can see up to six people inside it’s really made a difference as other than the last few days May’s weather was shocking.

I made my first trip to London in nine months to meet some friends for dinner and drink. And other than wearing a mask on the train the whole experience just felt so normal and it was nice. Before the pandemic, I used to go in to London most weeks so it felt a bit more like how my life used to be.

After saying I wanted to go for brunch at The Florist in Watford since it opened I finally made it there with a friend over the later bank holiday. The food and atmosphere was so nice, and everything felt very spread out and not busy at all. And then when the weather finally warmed up for the later bank holiday I caught up with some friends at a birthday BBQ. It was just nice to enjoy the sunshine and catch up.

Home updates for May 2021

We’ve been a lot slower with house bits lately because we’ve been focusing a lot of our energy on the garden. Inside the house, we’ve just got one more day of work before our bathroom can be tiled. I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally have a bath, I may have mentioned it a few times before. We do need to get our air conditioning units fitted now before the weather continues to get hotter. We bought some units when we first started renovating last year but just haven’t got round to getting them fitted. Mainly because it will take Luke and his dad a full weekend to install them. And we’ve had other priorities.

But the back garden has been the biggest thing really. We hadn’t really planned to do much with the garden but we thought we’d give it a glow-up so it could last us a few years until we can afford to re-do the whole thing. I’m very lucky that my dad loves gardening so him and my mum have been around three times over the month to help with some changes in the garden. I’m going to do a full post on the garden updates but we’ve sorted out fences, filling in an old pond, varnished the decking, pruned the garden, and had a lot of rubbish removed.

Wedding planning

We saw our final wedding venue right at the start of the month. And we have now booked our final venue which is so exciting. So we have a date which is in May 2023. We’re not planning to organise everything this year as some things we want to wait for (plus it’s so expensive). But we’ve pretty much picked our band so that should be sorted very soon. And we want to book in a few other things like the photographer/ videographer and things like that.

The main thing I’ve been doing is some budget planning and projections. There are some things I’ve just not been able to guess until I start enquiring (like flowers), but I’ve done the best I can for the moment

Everything else in May 2021

For the first time in what feels like forever May 2021 felt like a month where things happened. We weren’t super busy and out all the time but it was nice to have things planned.

My family has two birthdays in May, my auntie’s where we got together for a Chinese takeaway. And my brother’s 30th where we caught up for drinks and a quiz which was loads of fun.

So I mentioned earlier about Luke’s laser eye surgery which was booked for the final week of June. But sadly the company messed him around a bit and told him he was eligible, but the surgeon said he wasn’t and couldn’t do the procedure. It was understandably very disappointing for Luke, but also the service has just been appalling. We’ve been chasing people up to contact us about returning our deposit and no one has got back to us. So I wouldn’t recommend Optical Express if you’re booking for laser at all!

The final thing is that both me and Luke now have our COVID vaccines booked for a few days after this post goes out. I’m so happy we’re now eligible and can get it done. So we’ll see how that goes and whether either of us suffer any side effects.

How was your May 2021?

Glad you had a good month, and well done on getting your Covid vaccinations booked. Being a bit older than you I have had both of mine now and thankfully didn’t suffer any side-effects from either. Hope you are lucky that way as well!
