Tying Up Loose Ends On Our Home Renovation

It’s been a while since I last did an update on our home renovation. We’ve been physically living in the house for about 10 months and other than some minor jobs we’ve not done all that much. I’m quite an impatient person so the lack of work has got to me a little bit. But I’m not the one doing most of the work so I can’t really complain (even though I want to).
Here are some of the loose ends of our home renovation that I hope we get finished this year.
Tidy up the stairs
We have a few gaps in our staircase railings that we need to fix including a missing spindle. While I’d have loved to get a whole new staircase like the ones from Fontanot UK we decided to fix up the ones we have when we moved in. They are a million times better than they were as they no longer squeak when you walk on them. And the grey carpet runner means they’re soft and squidgy. But we do need to tidy up the area and neaten up the edges around the runner and replace the missing spindle.
Our home renovation- Finish the bathroom
I feel like all I do is moan about the fact that we don’t have a bath. But it’s been so damn long. Baths are one of my favourite things but I’ve not lived in a place with a bath for 2 and a half years now! Saying that number is actually pretty mental, to be honest. Our bathroom is reasonably close to being finished and I really really hope that by the end of July I can enjoy a relaxing bubble bath. But I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high.
Luke has a few tiny bits to finish and then the tiling can be done. The tiling itself is going to be a huge job as we’re getting floor to ceiling tiles all around. But once this is done the toilet and basin can be plumbed and fitted and the radiator fixed on. And then it’s more cosmetic. So we’ll see, won’t we?!
Fit our air conditioning units
When we planned our home renovation we factored in getting air conditioning. We both get super warm and sleep with a fan on all year round (yes even in the winter months). And we struggle in the heat. So last August three units were delivered, and they are currently still in our garage unfitted. We have two units that will sit on the same connection for our bedroom and the living room, and then a separate unit for Luke’s man cave so the later one doesn’t matter as much.
As we still have July and August to battle through I really want to get these units fitted and in use. Luke’s estimated it’s one to two days of work so I’m keeping everything crossed.
Our home renovation- Build our utility room
I’ve spoken briefly about our impending garage renovation before. But in case you haven’t seen the posts we are lucky to have a decent double garage. But we don’t use it for our cars so we want to utilise the space. We’re splitting it in half so one half will be Luke’s man cave. And the other half will be split again to be a regular garage and a utility room. We have the whole garage to sort out but my main concern at the moment is building out the utility room as it’s the easiest thing to do.
Once the metal for the walls go up and then it’s insulated and boarded up not much needs to happen to the utility. It will need the flooring laid, the walls painted and some cupboards made but little else. At the moment our washing machine and tumble drier are in the garage and they’re just getting super dusty with all the garage stuff in there.

You have worked so hard on your house and it looks great, I am however very jealous that you are getting air conditioning units I would love these

Your house is looking great so I am glad to hear that you are almost at the end and there are just a few more things to do! I hope you get your bubble bath soon.
We want to get air conditioning for our property too as in the summer with the biofolds it can get unbearable! Our house heats up very quickly! Hopefully you can make some more progress soon!

Wow you have done amazingly with your home renovations – I love the idea of having air conditioning units in the home we are living with fans on at the moment.

Love the idea of a utility room / garage, utilising the space is the best way! My goodness babe, so long without having a bath – I’d be the same as you, love a shower for a quickie but I need a soak to destress and relax! x
I wish we could do the air con thing, but new build Ts&Cs are a pain. So I finally bit the bullet and got a Dyson fan this year, it’s been a game changer. I remember finally having a bath again after renting places without, I’d miss it like crazy too if I couldn’t use mine now. Hope you get it sorted asap!

Getting air conditioners in is such a good idea! I really love the option for houses to be colder, and having a bulky AC unit (which is constantly on this time of year) is something I would love to not have in my forever home.
The units we’ve got are pretty small and sleek, but for us we sleep with fans on all year round (even in the winter) as we get so warm in bed so it will be great for that x
We have so many of these kind of jobs! We got our loft conversion done last year but some rooms need bits and bobs like an inbuilt mirror etc and we keep putting it off! x
I would love a utility room. We have a lovely kitchen but I would really love somewhere to put the washing machine and shoes and coats!
