My natural habitat is generally in colder environments so for me Autumn is the best season as it’s cool enough to warrant wearing layers without feeling like you’re so cold that your hands are going to fall off. I am all one for jumpers and snuggly scarves but the weather over the past few months just hasn’t allowed for that. Even though the extreme heatwave seems to have disappeared it’s still a really comfortable temperature so I’m alternating between light jackets and nothing on my arms, much like a cool evening on holiday.
Regular readers of my blog will know that I’ve been trying some new brands lately and seeing where the best plus size ranges are and one place I knew thought to look at was Very. I used to shop on Very loads when I was in my early twenties and in all honesty I don’t know why it’s been so long.
The plus size range is called V by Very Curve and there’s a whole host of items from jeans and skirts to jackets and tops which offer a massive range of sizes, something which is great for inclusivity. Too many times I’ve seen curve ranges which only go to a size 22, and while I would easily be able to buy an outfit many people out there wouldn’t, a true curve collection should offer a wider range.
The believe slogan t-shirt* that I am wearing in this outfit does just that and offers a choice of sizes up to 28 which is far more inviting for us larger women to shop on. I am a huge fan of slogan t-shirts as generally they’re on a block coloured top so I can pair it with a patterned skirt or pair of trousers but there’s something a little more to it. The first thing which jumped out at me about this top was the colour which shocked me as I’m usually one whose all for black. I don’t have a lot of pink in my wardrobe despite loving the colour so I made sure to change that when I picked some items from Very. I got a size 18 in this top and it’s totally true to size, and in all honesty I was half expecting to have to send it back and get a larger size as sometimes t-shirts come out that bit too fitted for my liking.
As the t-shirt was plain pink I paired it with my absolute favourite skirt at the moment and surprise surprise it’s covered in polka dots. I got this from Asos around a month ago when the weather was warm and I realised I didn’t own enough flowy skirts and I have worn it to absolute death. The thing I love about it is how versatile it is as you can pop on vans like I have for a daytime outfit or pop on a pair of heels and dress it up for the evening.
Alongside the t-shirt I also got a Longline Denim Jacket* from the V by Very Curve range and it’s been such a great transitional piece. On my recent trip to York it was in that transitional weather period where it was warm one minute and breezy the other and a denim jacket is great for those situations as you don’t overheat but it provides enough coverage. In Autumn I pretty much live in them so it’s great to have another option, especially as all my other jackets are black because I am such a creature of habit.
One thing I absolutely love about it is the long line length because it’s so flattering especially on us larger ladies who don’t want fitted jackets which finish around the waist as this draws the eyes in. Until getting this jacket I never realized how much I needed a long line jacket but now I don’t think I could be without it. And at £50 it’s a great price for such a good quality sturdy jacket.
For me accessories are the best way of jazzing up an outfit and ever since my days of working in a jewellers I’ve had a slight obsession with watches, and more recently oversized watches. I’ve seen the Jord wooden watches around the internet and blogging world for quite some time and always thought what unique watches they were so I was incredibly happy when I got the chance to work with them.
I picked the Frankie Dark Sandalwood and Smoke watch* which can be worn as a women’s watch like I’ve been doing, or can be worn by men as you can see in the photo. I modelled it on Luke as it was proving too hard to photograph on myself and it’s a really good size for him. I love the oversized faces as they suit me so much better and they’re just so much clearer to glance down and read.
The wooden design for me is what makes it so unique, you look at the watch and instantly it looks different, plus with the lack of metal it’s so light on the wrist which is exactly what you want with an oversized watch. I’ve tried a few of Luke’s watches on and they’re so heavy you feel like you’re lifting weights every time you bring your wrist up.
If you’d like to win yourself a lovely Jord Watch I am hosting a competition where you could win a watch of your choice up to the value of $100.
To enter just click here before the 23rd September when the competition closes. The competition is open worldwide and the prizes will come directly from Jord.
