Getting Through The Strangest Month So Far – March Update

Well well well. March has been an odd one hasn’t it. The month started off pretty great, I did some fun things and had so much planned. And then whoop everything went mental. It started around 12th March that everything changed and I think we’re all still in shock. Sometimes I’m just at home and for a few hours I just forget it’s all happening. It’s like being in a bubble. But there have been some fun parts of this month which I’ll talk over.

London trips

Before the ban on unnecessary travel came in I made it into London twice. Both times it was to do a tour with Klook. The very beginning of the month was a Rock and Roll tour of London where we saw famous spots for gigs, recordings, where people lived etc. Then on the weekend before it got really bad I did a London Underground Tour which was very interesting. Both of the guides were so knowledgeable and I can’t wait to explore London even more once things are a bit more back to normal.

Birthdays galore

So March is quite birthday heavy with Luke’s on 12th and my mum’s on 13th. For Luke’s birthday we headed to TGI Friday’s with his family which was really nice. Then he headed away on a stag weekend (got in there just in time!) Then for my mums birthday we headed to a local pub and had a lovely dinner with the whole family.

Alongside the birthday meals right at the start of the month we had our engagement meal with both of our families. It was so nice to get everyone together and have a nice evening. Especially as it’s the last time for a while we’d see everyone together.

Cancellations and changes

So of course a lot of things from March (and further in the year) have been cancelled or rescheduled. First up was the Glamour Beauty Event which was due to be on Mother’s Day. This has been rescheduled for July and I am so excited as I had a great time last year.

We had arranged to go axe throwing with Luke’s friends for his birthday but we’re going to rearrange that for when things are back to normal. One of my oldest friends was due to have her hen party at the end of March but this is going to be rescheduled. It’s due to be a spa weekend and I think it’s what we’ll all need to look forward to once this is over.

Then finally our week’s trip to Portugal has been rearranged to the end of the year. Thankfully every company have been so accommodating in terms of helping us change so that’s another thing to look forward to.

Life changes

So despite everything going on there have been some major life changes. Firstly we have the keys to our new house so it’s officially ours! We were so lucky to get our keys just a day or so after the lockdown. We did everything the right way, didn’t come close to anyone outside our household etc. And it’s been great. We’ve only had it for about 6 days by the time March ends. But we’ve stripped most of the house ready to start our work and renovations.

Tasty Cookbook

The other big life update is my job. So before all of the virus stuff, I accepted a new job offer ready to become a Digital Copywriter at Ocado Technology. I handed in my notice to ASOS but now I’m not too sure about exactly how it will work. I’m hoping my start date won’t change etc. But I am very excited for a new challenge when I can start.

Looking on the brighter side

Yes the world is dark and tough at the moment but I’ve been trying to think about some of the positives. I have been cooking more since the lockdown and getting a bit more creative. The tasty custom cookbook* above has definitely been helping. Me and Luke absolutely love tasty videos and have made quite a few of their recipes before. But now we have our own cookbook of them. You can customise which sections you have recipes on such as  ‘One Pot Wonders’, ‘Breakfast Ideas’, or ‘Quick Eats’. Or you can choose recipes with specific ingredients like cheese or sweet potato. Once you’ve chosen six sections you can customise which recipes are in each section. So it’s super unique to you and your tastes. While we’ve not been able to do as many as we’d like due to limited ingredients it’s proved lots of fun.

I’ve also done a few batches of baking which I’m very happy about. My skincare routine has been upped even further as well. I’ve found the time to do face masks more, and I’m not wearing makeup on a day-to-day basis. Hair masks are something I’ve finally found the time to do as well, so I’m treating myself and my body more.

I’ve also been able to finally watch some of those series I’ve been meaning to watch. I’m currently on Marvelous Mrs Maisel and I love it!

March has been a strange month, am so glad you managed to celebrate your engagement and birthdays before the lockdown. One thing this has enabled me to do is use food from my freezer without filling it up which I have needed to do for a long time

That’s one thing I wish I had was a freezer. As I’m at home with my parents they didn’t have any freezer space for us to use x

It has been such a strange month hasn’t it? Like you we got our keys around the lockdown and have been moving in whilst also avoiding people. I am finding it hard to work at the moment as having to use my mobile data but also have the kids tethering off that too. Can’t wait until everything is back to normal!

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah I need to get broadband sorted for the new place too and it’s been a little tricky. At least you have stuff to keep you busy unpacking and sorting the new place out x

That is so exciting – moving into your new house! I am sure it is a good distraction at times, but also must be frustrating if there are things you would like to buy or do but can’t get out to get what you need

Strange is certainly the only way to describe March. The longest Month I think I have ever experienced.

But it is so good to look back at the positives as well.

Good luck with the house renovations, it is fun! Honestly!

It has been long in one sense but I’ve not noticed it as much, I do think April is going to drag x

I am glad to hear you had a lovely start to March before everything went topsy turvey. I love being at home, only because i can forget for a while what is going on outside. We love to bake but flour isn’t available at my local stores.

    • Rhian Westbury says:

Yeah sometimes when I’m at home I almost forget that everything is going on, it’s a nice escape x

Congratulations on being home owners! I love that you’re being positive and having some tlc – which I’ve found myself getting into a habit of taking care of my skin more too, and taking regular bubble baths.

I ended up going to London too just before this lockdown. I was supposed to go to Asia next week, but have had to postpone it. I agree it is important to try and think positive
