It’s been quite a while since I bought you a room reveal but I’m so excited to bring you one for our main bathroom. We’ve completed the downstairs of our house with the downstairs loo, living room, kitchen diner, and my office. Alongside the master bedroom and ensuite. So we’re down to the final two rooms upstairs to finish alongside the garage renovation. So the end is in sight. But this is all about the bathroom reveal.
This room has been a long time coming but I’m so happy that it’s now finished. I’ve moaned about not having a bath for so long now, and having one has been amazing. I had about three baths within the first week of it being finished I was that excited.
When we first got the house there was an airing cupboard with the water tank in which you accessed from the hallway. But this took a big square-shaped chunk out of the bathroom leaving it as an L shape. You had a bath on the left-hand side which the door caught on every time you opened it there was that little room. Then the toilet was right in front of you, and the sink around the corner of the L.
Like the ensuite, this room also had carpet in it which makes me feel a little ill to look back on. The bath was super narrow, the tiles were very old-fashioned and it just wasn’t the best use of the space.
Originally we’d planned to rip everything out and replace it all and that would be the bathroom reveal. But after some research, we decided to make a much bigger change.
Researching water tanks we found one that could go in the loft instead of next to the bathroom. So we bought that, had it installed, and ripped out the old tank and cupboard to open up the main bathroom. Adding that extra 25% of space back into the bathroom so it was a rectangular shape again made so much difference. Although we weren’t going to do this renovation before we moved in we stripped the room out completely before. We didn’t want to have a nice fresh house and then 6 months down the line be making a mess bringing bags of tiles and an old toilet down the stairs.
We knew we were going to keep the bath in the same general position as the old one, even if we wanted a much wider one. So the next thing to do was move the door. Originally you had a door near enough at the top of the stairs for the bathroom and one next to it for the water tank. So the original door was blocked up and a new doorframe fitted in its new home.
Once this was all done the door was closed and we didn’t even look in to do anything for 6-9 months.
A few months ago work started back up on this room. The first thing that happened was a general tidy-up and a bit of filling in holes. Next up Luke built some boxing to go over the pipes at the end of the bath. And then create a space where our bathroom TV lives. Yes, it is super boujee, but if we wanted to have one we had to do it now. But I don’t regret it for a second. Then Luke had to get the bath in place so we knew where the tiles needed to go up to. We were very lucky to not have to buy a bath as we had the one from Luke’s parent’s house that they were replacing. And it’s so big that even Luke at 6 foot 3 can lay down in it comfortably.
We went for floor-to-ceiling tiles on all walls so our tiler did a bit of a plastering before spending a few weekends getting the room tiled. We opted for the same Rustic Wood Effect Tiles that we have in our ensuite and downstairs loo. And then the same flat metro tiles on all of the walls. Three of the walls have white gloss flat metro tiles, and the wall behind the bath has pink gloss flat metro tiles. I really wanted pink but wasn’t sure if Luke would go with it, but he was more than happy. It’s quite a subtle pink really and is a nice pop of colour.
After the tiling was done we painted the ceiling, fitted the mirror and radiator. Then Luke and his dad spent a full weekend installing the sink, toilet, and the cabinet that it all sits into. We went for the same Reeves Nouvel gloss white unit with marble worktop from Victoria Plum that we have in our ensuite. We loved the amount of storage that it has and how easy it is to configure. For example, we have the bathroom set up the opposite way round to our ensuite. In our ensuite, the toilet is on the right and the sink on the left. But this allows for that.
I love how much storage it has in it so inside the cabinet I have more of my trusty wham plastic baskets. They house all manner of bath things from bubble baths, salts, oils, and bath bombs.
As soon as the unit was fit and the room was 95% done I had my first bath and it was pure bliss. Although we don’t yet have a door handle or lock I can officially share our bathroom reveal.
Next to the bath, I have this three-drawer storage unit from VonHaus a few years back when I worked with them. I think we’re going to repaint it as it’s a bit worn but it fits perfectly into the space. And has enough room for loads of bath bombs and all of my hair-dying stuff. My trusty bath tray is back being used again and is definitely a bath time essential as I can put my magazine, my drink, snacks, and my phone altogether.
Then we have our TV. We got a Soulaca Smart TV which is specifically for bathrooms so it’s waterproof with integrated Bluetooth/ Wifi. But the thing I love most about it is that it looks like a mirror when it’s not on so it blends into the room.
To tie into the pink aspects of the room I picked up a small blush pink pedal bin from George at Asda, and this beautiful pink and grey geometric towel from Next. There’s a lot of white in the room so I wanted the colour to break it up.
To finish the room off we popped a few decorative bits in without going too mad. As this space is mainly going to be to have relaxing baths (and for guests) I didn’t want to put too much out. As we’re getting kittens I moved our Aloe Vera plant into the bathroom. Aloe isn’t great for pets so it’s a room they won’t have access to. As both a decorative piece but also functional I have two small glass jars which have some bath salts in and little spoons. This way when we’re getting ready for our baths we can put the salts straight in. Plus they look quite nice.
The main decorative pieces are our Displate signs on the wall. We wanted some artwork on the walls but with tiles, we didn’t want to drill anything in. So Displate is great for that as you attach a magnet to the wall and they magnetize to the wall. We have one in our ensuite and love it so knew it was the best choice for here. We went for artwork from three locations close to our hearts; Edinburgh, New York, and Venice.

I love it, you have worked so hard on your home, I do love waterfall taps, we did try one on our bathroom sink but as we had to install a pump it was a little too fierce and flew over the sink onto the floor.
Yeah you have to be so careful having one in the sink x
OMG, that is stunning!!! You’ve done such a great job with this. Love the size of the bath and the radiators.
Thanks x
Looks brilliant! You’ve done a great job! We are planning to re design our bathroom too. Seems like it will be a big job 🙂
Your new bathroom is looking spick and span, Rhian! I live in a rented shared house but I long for the day I own my own place and I can decorate it how I want it to look 🙂
It makes such a difference just knowing you’re the only one using it x
Those tiles are lovely in your bathroom and I love those prints! I have some artwork on my living room wall of Venice, New York and Vegas. I’ve never heard of the magnet attachment for the prints will have a look on their website as that’s genius
It’s just so good when you’re renting and don’t want to attach them to the wall or in spaces where you can’t like a bathroom x
Oh wow what a difference your bathroom looks absolutely stunning – what a difference and that bath looks perfect for relaxing in.
This is gorgeous!! I love the shape of the bath and those tiles. And love the toilet and sink and that it hides all the pipes
Love the tiling, I would love to do something like this with our bathroom soon.
Woow your bathroom look so good! Love the pink tiles x
Oh wow, it is absolutley stunning. I aodre that pink wall and the curve of the bath is perfect. It looks huge now!
It really does feel so much bigger now as well x
